City of Ghosts (Cassidy Blake, #1) by Victoria Schwab
City of Ghosts

Cassidy Blake's parents are The Inspecters, a (somewhat inept) ghost-hunting team. But Cass herself can REALLY see ghosts. In fact, her best friend, Jacob, just happens to be one.

When The Inspecters head to ultra-haunted Edinburgh, Scotland, for their new TV show, Cass—and Jacob—come along. In Scotland, Cass is surrounded by ghosts, not all of them friendly. Then she meets Lara, a girl who can also see the dead. But Lara tells Cassidy that as an In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn't sure about her new mission, but she does know the sinister Red Raven haunting the city doesn't belong in her world. Cassidy's powers will draw her into an epic fight that stretches through the worlds of the living and the dead, in order to save herself.

I'm reading this now and I'm finding it interesting. It is a bit of a creepy read for young kids, but definitely written for middle schoolers.

I read this last month and really enjoyed it. Bit of a relief, as I tried to read her Darker Shade of Magic and ended up DNF'ing.

I will be reading the second book this month.

Deborah | 87 comments I liked it too, more than I expected. I really loved the location and they are going to Paris next.

Edinburgh is one of my all time favourite cities, so I loved it too.

I read the first book earlier this week. I already have the second book ready to go. it will be read this week.

Jenna | 85 comments You all are making me want to try this one out now. I was disappointed by both her Darker Shade of Magic series and Vicious/Vengeful and thinking she just wasn’t for me.

I'll be interested to see what you think of it when you're done. I thought the second half of this one was a little better than the first half and I have a feeling that moving forward the series will be better now that (view spoiler) I feel that the first half of this book was setting the basis for rest of the book and future installments.

I finished a few days ago. This was a 3.5 to me. I was expecting something more like Lockwood and Co.. This one felt more childish. I mean I'm not the target reader for both of those but I felt I was not the right age for this one while I just enjoyed tremendously Lockwood.
Don't get me wrong, it was still very enjoyable, fast paced (for the 2nd half) and a fast read. I don't know if I'll read the other books though.

I haven't read Lockwood, but I agree that this one felt young. It was in the middle grade category, so I guess that shouldn't be a surprise.
