Chick Lit Book, Dad dies

I’m looking for a book that I read a while ago. I’m pretty sure it was a chick-lit book. From what I can remember it was written in first-person and the main character sees her dad go out into the back garden one night and kill himself (I think he freezes to death)- it could be a flashback. I know that sounds dramatic but in the context of the book I don’t think it was quite like that!

Yeah, it's not that one, though, unfortunately.

I remember a similar scene in Eyes of a Child by Richard North Patterson. It is a flashback by Teresa Peralta, I think she watched while her mother locked her drunken dad out of the house and he froze to death. It's a mystery/crime book though and I don't remember if it was in 1st person.
