SOLVED. YA Series from early 2000s - contemporary coming of age/romance. [s]

I read a series (3-5 books total, can't remember exactly) in the early 2000s that follows a girl through high school, college, and maybe early career. The boy in the book is a bit of an outcast (and I am 99% certain he had red hair and that was a unique detail mentioned throughout the books), they fall in love and carry it through the beginning of college, break up, drift apart...... I don't remember any other details. I believe she loses her virginity to him in high school (God I wish I could remember one of their names!). I am currently reading the Jenny Han books and they really reminded me of this series. It is not a popular book series that has shown up on any google lists (I've looked). Any suggestions, authors to look up would be helpful. Thank you.
