Sonya (sonyar) | 1 comments Hi there! I look forward to the groups book suggestions and discussions. I'm an adult fan of YA books :)

message 403: by Mallory (new)

Mallory (thewoman) Hello! My name is Mallory. I currently teach 9th grade in the Bronx and am hoping this will push me to explore new books. I recently rediscovered my love (and deep dislike) of ya-lit with Lia, bright and dark (love) and Twilight (dislike). I look forward to our discussions!

Angie (angie_frazier) | 4 comments Hey everyone! My name is Angie. I'm a debut YA author and tend to lean toward historical, romance, and paranormal fiction when I'm reading and writing. I'm looking forward to book discussions and recommendations :-)

Michael Stone | 7 comments Sup my name is Michael Stone and right know I am struggling to find a new series to latch onto because I have almost finished Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Anyway I love to read and play copious amounts of video games.

Michael Stone | 7 comments Ok I just found it sorry.

message 410: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (reading_belle) My name is Jayme. I love YA because these books have the depth that I am looking for without all the explicit adult scenes that are often in adult fiction. Of course, there always is the "OMG I totally love my life and my guy and I am SOOO awesome tehehe" book in this area but I avoid those so I am pretty happy. I am 18, attending college, and living with my wonderful if under read fiance in Texas :-)

message 411: by Pavel (new)

Pavel Volkov (tenderwolf) | 1 comments Hi! My name is Pavel. I am 54(am I a young adult?). I live in Belarus. I am a teacher of Russian (I have been teaching at a primary school in the town of Rogachev, Gomel Region). But I like English literature very much. I have been learning English by myself and I try to read in English as much as possible. I served in the navy, finished The Belarussian State University. I have been brought up on the English and American literature (when I was a boy I read it in Russian). And I am still fond of reading it in English now. I`d like to read YA books. But I`m not sure I can find them in Internet. But regardless of anything I press towards being a member of your group.

message 412: by Heba (new)

Heba (hebaio) Hi!

I'm a teenager hailing from Toronto, Canada and I love to write just as much as I love to read. I've been a lurker on this site for a while now (just rating books, barely even reviewing) and I decided recently that I wanted to get more involved, so here I am =)

I like all sorts of fiction and, though I haven't read all that much of it this year, YA is definitely one of my favourite categories. Like Michael, just finished Catching Fire, looking to start Shiver very soon.

I'm also very much looking forward to group discussions =D

message 414: by Casey (new)

Casey Jocelyn (Cassandrax28) | 2 comments HI, my name is casey, and reading is one of my favorite things. Me and my best friend read all the young adult fantasy-romance books, then talk about them later, so i thought this might be a good place to get other oppinions. I'll be excited to start another book:)

message 415: by Richelle (new)

Richelle (luvs2read247) | 1 comments Hey everyone, I'm Richelle, I am 23 years old. I too am an aspiring writer. I am currently working on my first novel. I have a four year old daughter. I have over a thousand books in my library and am adding more everyday. I have been looking for a goog book club to join. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

message 416: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Hello everyone. My name is Jessi. I'm 22 (almost 23) years old and I have always been captivated by young adult literature. I am currently enrolled in a program which will prepare me to become a Registered Medical Transcriptionist.

message 417: by D (new)

D My name is Denise, I'm 22 & from Michigan. I was an avid reader up until college, where I read textbooks and little else. I'm now back full swing, with a huge to read list that keeps getting longer. It's going to take me years to catch up on what I missed, but I'm willing to put in the time. ;)

message 419: by PeeEyeBee (new)

PeeEyeBee (patrickivanburgess) | 5 comments Ciao! My name is Patrick (I'm not Italian, by the way, just learning it) and I love language! Words are powerful, magical things, can't get enough of 'em.

My favorite YA Book authors are Kristin Cashore (Graceling, Fire - AWESOME books by the way), Tamora Pierce (Circle of Magic series, usually rated for children, but Pierce writes complex, mature themes into her books, so I say YA), Cate Tiernan (Sweep series), and L.J. Smith (Nightworld series, and the Vampire Diaries).

message 420: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello! My name is Olivia. I love to read any kinds of books! My favorite authors are Suzanne Collins (Hunger Games/ Catching Fire), P.C. Cast (Marked series), Ellen Hopkins, Jenny Nimmo, Elizabeth Scott.

message 423: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachieray) | 3 comments Hey, my names Rachel. I live in a little unknown town close to Panama City so I usually say I'm from there. Since about 5th grade I made the great discovery of books where I could escape into any world I wanted. I especially love series. Right now I've moved into the Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance right now though I always go back to my first love which is YA.

message 424: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla I am 28 year old who has 3 boys. They are all very big readers even though 1 can not quite read yet (he is only 2). I am about to start my student teaching in the spring. I am waiting for student placement to tell me what grade that I will be working with so I can start planning. I love YA books because they are fun, clean books. I am also building my classroom library so I have a variety of books. I look forward to discussion and ideas for more great books.

message 425: by Kyle (new)

Kyle (beardedk) Hello all!! I am Kyle the guybrarian! My specialty is in YA librarianship, and I love many different kinds of books. I live in Ohio, and love love love books =)

message 426: by Maura (new)

Maura W. | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm Maura. I'm supposed to be a proper adult college student and read lots of literary criticism and things, but I am a massive YA fantasy/sf freak and have recently gone on the longest reread-all-my-favorite-YA-fantasy-and-SF kick ever. I thought this group seemed appropriate. :)

message 427: by PeeEyeBee (new)

PeeEyeBee (patrickivanburgess) | 5 comments Maura wrote: "Hi everyone! I'm Maura. I'm supposed to be a proper adult college student and read lots of literary criticism and things, but I am a massive YA fantasy/sf freak and have recently gone on the long..."

Hey, Maura, what means this "proper adult college student," 'cause I seem to have missed that job description as well (evident in my utter lack of disregard for YA literary circles). :) I think what we love so much about YA fantasy is that it still has the joy and sparkliness that a good portion of Adult fantasy seems to disdain. People (by that I mean publishers/editors/people-who-think-they-know-better-but-dont-really-'cause-they-really-only-like-reading-Ayn-Rand-or-James-Patterson *shudders*) seem to equate the general lack of torture, absolute suffering, soap opera foibles, bad hair days, and additional absolute suffering in certain books with "Young," "Unworthy of Adult Enjoyment," or "Not Scary/Painful/Traumatizing Enough for The Jaded Post-Pubescents." They seem to have forgotten that the reason why we read fantasy in the first place is because its our brain's vitamin supplement, we don't get enough of something in our physical lives, so we have to get it somewhere else.

So don't ever feel bad at getting your daily dose of YA - it's good for you. :)

message 428: by Joleen (new)

Joleen | 1 comments Hi my name is Joleen. I live it in a small boring village.. so you wouldn't want to know about that. SO yeah I read the first book Of Uglies. I liked it a lot. It was very intresting.

M Hi Everyone, I just joined. I love a wide variety of books, but I don't have nearly enough time to read! My work puts me in contact with a lot of middle schoolers, and I'm always looking for young adult books to read and recommend--but there are so many of them! I'm looking forward to reading and discussing books here.

message 442: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 15 comments Hello my name is Shannon and I am a mom of a 11, 7 and 3 year old.
Just this year I have become interested in YA books. I tend to like the fantasy books the best. I'm not sure how I really find time to read but most of the time I can finish 2 books per month. I find it to be a wonderful escape from reality plus I have a tween who is starting to become interested in YA books and I have enjoyed curling up and reading some of them together.
