Lady Ivory Rose (brightangel22) | 2 comments Hey, I'm Emily Rose. I'm a teen and a young writer, so I look to some books for inspiration. I love Sarah Dessen and she's the greatest inspiration of all to me because I used to live where she teaches.

Sara - Book Happy Girl (sarafree) | 1 comments Hi - I'm Sara. I'm 33 years old and I love YA fiction. I read adult fiction as well, but YA is a quick fix to get quality stories into my busy life.

Sean Beaudoin (seanbeaudoin) | 1 comments Hi

I'm Sean. I'm pretty new to Goodreads and this group as well. I write YA fiction (Going Nowhere Faster, and Fade To Blue, which just came out a few weeks ago). I also read pretty much constantly, but go through phases where I read a lot of YA and then don't read any at all if I'm in the middle of something and don't want to be duly influenced. I voted for A Wrinkle In Time for the latest read because it was definitely one of those Rosetta Stone books for me way back when and would be great to re-experience as an adult. I'm living in Seattle at the moment, where rain is a myth. It has been perfect reading weather for months.

thanks for having me

I recently completed my Masters of Library and Information Science with a focus in School Library Media. As of yet, I am not working as a School or YA/Children's Librarian, but I hope to be soon. Ellen Hopkins (ellenhopkins) | 9 comments Hi everyone, Guess I'm a little late to this party, but better late than never, right? I'm Ellen Hopkins. You're reading my book, IDENTICAL, in September. Will be interested in your comments.

message 364: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Gordon (aliciareneegordon) hey, I'm AliciaRenne :] I'm still in highschool and I hope to get more serious about my writing when I hit college. I'm taking early college english classes so that I can hit creative writing once I get there. I am an OCR. Yes, my reading is rather obsessive and more than a little cumpulsive. If and when there are bags under my eyes, you know I've been up late...reading.
I read usually 1-3 books a day. When I'm not reading I'm writing or thinking about reading or writing, I'm playing tennis or with my friends.
My favorate words are ellipsis and asphyxiation... No idea why. Aren't words wonderful? My fave YA books are "If I Stay," by Gayle Forman and "Just Listen" by Sarah Dessen.
You're never to old for YA books. :]

message 383: by Jill (last edited Sep 10, 2009 01:32PM) (new)

Jill (jillbrewer) Hello fellow readers! My name is Jill and I am a mother of 4 children. My daughter is 13 and 3 boys ages 2, 4 and 6.

I grew up reading all kinds of books. Once I was in college my pleasure reading took a nose dive. Since becoming a mom I've read here and there but it's really been over the last 4 years or so that I've lost myself in books on a regular basis. Of all books, it was the Harry Potter series that did it. I love bookstores. I love to just walk into them and smell the scents of paper and binding glue and feel the excitement of so many stories just waiting to be read.

Over the last year or so my sister-in-law and I have become enthralled with the Young Adult literature. My daughter is an avid reader also though our tastes tend to be polar opposites. I love fantasy and sci-fi but she doesn't. I'm looking forward to book suggestions this group will make!!

message 395: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Hello everyone!

I teach high school Spanish and I have been reading a lot of books from The Ultimate Teen Book Guide by Daniel Hahn and promoting them in my classroom. I am really trying to read more books that my students are reading and share with them some fantastic books I am reading. They have been very receptive - some students are already reading some of the titles I tell them about, and our school librarian is ordering more and more books from the guide. I belong to two other YA groups and moderate a couple of groups on my own. I read about 1-2 hours each night, and try to squeeze some in during the school day at lunch if I have time. I have been home sick A LOT lately, so my reading time has quadrupled! :)

I look forward to reading YA lit with you! Thanks for having me!

message 396: by Mickie (new)

To keep up my chops I read lots of teen lit and volunteer at my local library. I am really looking forward to reading with you guys--what a great group!!

message 400: by Adam (new)

Adam Decker (adamdecker) | 1 comments As part of a marketing promotion, I am giving away copies of my novel, The Janitor. Below, I have included a brief synopsis of the story. You can contact me on goodreads or visit www.AdamDecker.com. Thanks for your time.

What's it about?

Roman Swivel is a seemingly meek and mild mannered transfer student that joins the ranks of Collingston High School's senior class and works as a student janitor. Roman immediately finds himself on the radar of the school's big man on campus and is ridiculed by his sheep-like classmates. Appearances can be deceiving, however. For beneath the surface, Roman is a gifted genius with unbelievable talents and a haunted past wrought with violence and tragedy. Hounded by his former mentor Agent Johnson, and a shadowy government agency known only as the NN, Roman seeks refuge and normalcy in this peaceful Midwestern town, where he'll unexpectedly find friendship, love, and belonging. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to our hero, his choice of towns will also set him on a deadly collision course with its seedy underbelly, the demons of his own past, and ultimately his own fate.
