I've been a bit off my reading (I either read or write a lot) for a while, although I'd like to take a writing break and pick up a few books for a while. YA is among the kinds of books I've been reading over the past few years, although I have a pretty eclectic taste.

I''m interested in what other people find that most attracts them to YA. For me the emotional content in the writing tends to be clearer and—often—more intense. The characters are younger, so the new feelings they experience in the stories are fresher to them, something I think people lose over time.

What are your thoughts? What about the tradeoff between plot complexity and emotional complexity? And . . when does Young Adult become New Adult? Is it based on character age, or on content? For example, I'll take two Stephenie Meyer books: Twilight and The Host. I view Twilight as YA, but The Host as New Adult, although the emotional age of the main character is ambiguous.
