Thanks Kayla! I didn't mean to diss fantasy -- it's just not my cuppa'. I'll have to check out your list: I've heard a lot of good things about John Green.

I love books about WWII too. Favorite fiction: Slaughterhouse 5 and Catch 22. Nonfiction: Operation Mincemeat, Stalingrad.

I used to be a park ranger for the Boston Harbor Islands. One of the islands held mortar batteries, but the mortars themselves were removed long ago to support more urgent defensive interests. You know where they are now? Battered, bruised and rusting in Corregidor!

message 1926: by Aaliyah (new)

Aaliyah (lelajane) This sounds like how Hazel described group... Name. Age. Why we're here/ what we have. haha. Sorry...
Anyways, HI. Im Aaliyah. I enjoy reading YA books and really like dystopian books or any. Mainly any YA book... im a really bad judge with books and not very opinionated...for example someone will comment thoroughly on a book and when they ask me about it I'll probably just say "I liked it". That is all. Well I really like books like Divergent, The Hunger Games, Legend etc. I also like contemporary books...before I joined this sight I didn't even know there were so many different kind of genres/topics etc. haha I read LOTS of books. My mom says I should just live in a bookstore. I live in good ol' Canada. WHERE IT IS COLD. No not stereotypical Canada cold. Just colder. Umm...so yah. That's all. Feel free to add me! I'm lonely haha :)

message 1927: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (mccannx) Greetings and salutations,
My favorite genre is fantasy, but I haven't been able to find too many exciting new works. Classics like Tolkien were great, the first couple Robert Jordan books were great, Wizard's First Rule was
fun.
Non-techie sci fi.. I like The Adventures of The Stainless Steel Rat, Deathworld, Ender's Game, and Callahan's Crosstime Saloon. I like good adventure stories of any genre, including Winterdance, Seabiscuit, and recently I have been getting hooked on YA because that seems to be where the most exciting and innovative writing is happening (Hunger Games, Divergent, MazeRunner, etc.). I am working on a fantasy book as time allows, and will start a
book blog soon.

Feel free to stop by and check out my booklist or drop me a friend request, I am fairly new to the Goodread's

neighborhood.

Best!
Joe

message 1946: by saania jamal ✧ (last edited Aug 20, 2013 10:55AM) (new)

saania jamal ✧ (shadyhades) Haidere stranger, hopefully once you're done reading this, I won't have to call you that anymore c: Anywho, I'm a nearly-15-year-old in Dubai with a knack for accidentally losing contact with every single human being during the holidays and turning into leper. I'm an introvert and a tad anti-social and I'm not too sure if I'm okay with that, but my bestie makes up for it; yes, I'm talking about my laptop.

Books took over my life about five years ago when I picked up the perfection that is Harry Potter and I've been sobbing my heart out over them ever since. Music's a part of my soul and you'll probably find me spending all-nighters watching TV shows if I'm not busy blogging away or devouring my bed. Did I mention I was lazier than a sack of potatoes?

You might say I've got dual personalities: queen of diplomacy and easy-going (not to mention, semi-awkward at the few unwanted times) with my friends and a cooker waiting to explode with the rents. Alas, life works that way for me.

I'm sure there's a shitton of other things I could say, but I'd rather not fry your brain any further.
Catch me on dracomalfoyx for an insight on the fangirl part of me!

Oh yeah, and call me Sam c:
