Maddie (showjumperpro) Hello everyone!
My name is Madison, and I'm an L.A college student currently deciding between earning a biology degree or one in cosmetology (vet or hairdresser/makeup-artist basically). I'm 19, and I'm obsessed with reading and horseback riding. I love this website for all the recommendations, reviews, and being able to keep tract of what I buy and read (Librarything.com is so slow; plus you have to pay for having a library over 200 books!). I have a bad habit of buying books faster that I can read them!

Catherine Banks (catherine_banks) | 6 comments Hello, I'm Catherine Banks. I'm an avid fantasy reader and love YA fantasy especially. I'm also an author, though not published yet, but I'm planning to self-publish my novel "Song of The Moon" in a couple of months on Amazon. I can't wait to start reading some of these books and am so thankful that I found this site, which opened my eyes to hundreds of books I hadn't even thought to look at!

message 556: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 3 comments Hey, everyone! I'm Carrie, and I'm addicted to YA books. It's been about a half day since my last book, and I'm starting The Dark Divine today. Can't help myself. :)

I'm also a YA writer. My book No Pain, No Brain comes out in 2011 from Delacorte. I'm going to a conference this weekend and will probably squeal like a fangirl at Libba Bray.

Cannot wait to discuss YA with people who don't look at me funny!

Welcome guys! Thanks Lisa!

Crystal's Bookish Life (crystalsbookishlife) Hi, I'm Crystal Cook. I love to read YA books even though I'm 28 and a mom! I am in the middle of writing my first YA and am having lots of fun with it. I am excited to talk about books that you just can't stop thinking about, and the awful ones too I guess.

message 559: by Nan (new)

Nan (tenantofwildfel) | 4 comments Hi. My name is Nan, and I'm a long-time reader of YA fiction. I'm 33 and currently a grad student at Wayne State in Detroit, where I study nineteenth-century British Gothic fiction. Right now, I'm not writing any fiction--only my dissertation.

I've been a member of this group for some time, but I haven't been active in it due to demands on my time (teaching, research, working my retail job), but now that I have more time on my hands (and you've chosen Hush, Hush as the book for February), I figured it would be a good time to check in and participate.

message 560: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 3 comments Ooooh. British Gothic fiction is one of the coolest majors ever. Good luck with that dissertation, Nan.

Thank you! (I've got a meeting with my director today, so I need all of the luck I can get . . .)

British Gothic fiction is pretty wonderful--the Gothic mode is so strong in YA fiction right now that I'm just in heaven.

My favourite YA novels at the moment are Twilight, Hunger Games, Wicked Lovely and Hush Hush!
I hope I'll find many other YA books to read!

message 579: by Lushbug (new)

Lushbug Hello one and all. i looooove to read. fave genres are classics, fantasy and period novels. Love YA fiction as unlike adult books I find it tends to focus more on plot and less on relationships-not always tho and the writing tend to be more to the point. My fave YA authors would be philip Pulman, Garth Nix, Kelley Armstrong and JK Rowling. Enjoyed twilight but the other books didnt really do it for me. Hoping to find some good recommenations on here and have some interesting chats.

message 583: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Hi everyone, I'm Leslie. I'm 32 and I'm in medical school. I love YA books still, as well as adult books.

When I was a kid in the library, I used to think, when I'm grown up I'll have to browse the adult section, and those books are boring, but now I like books written for everyone.

I'm excited about how active the discussions in this group are!

message 585: by Jazmin (new)

Jazmin (jazminx) | 2 comments Hiya everyone, I'm Jazmin I'm 17 and out of school and working from England, London. I read in my spare time and enjoy every book but mostly crime and Dan Brown. I have recently started reading the True Blood books and my friend suggested Hush Hush, I read it in a day and have since started reading The Immortals. I'm not a writer but would love to try to write a book but I wouldn't have a clue where to start... I love reading as I can then wander off and forget every stress of day to day life.

message 586: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Skeens (seeshelle) | 24 comments Hi everyone. My name is Michelle. I live in Connecticut with my hubby and three kiddies (10, 8 and 7). Today is a snow day and we are expecting 6-12 inches so I'm home from work. I've been an avid reader since high school brought me to romance novels. I have since added to my addiction YA books.

I have not read "Hush Hush" yet and it has been on my list TO READ. Just picked it up yesterday from the library and should be done with it by the weekend. Oh, I'm a very fast reader so I'm a frequent library-goer.

Can't wait to read it and get everyone's thoughts on it.

message 591: by Amber (new)

Amber I am the homeschooling SAHM of six wild-n-creative children. I loveLOVElove to read, but don't have time for anything too long, too involved, or utterly disappointing. I like Youth Fiction and YA books because they are usually easy reads for me, and tend to be cleaner than adult stuff (boo!hiss!). For me, a clean read is a MUST!

message 592: by Thempper (new)

message 594: by Laura (new)

Laura | 6 comments Hi! I'm 22, and although I've always loved to read, I've been on a YA kick for the past year (thanks to Twilight). I graduated from college in May and am working at a desk job for a year before I start medical school this August. I'm trying to finish writing a fantasy novel and am reading as much as possible before the years of intense studying begin. Although I'm sure I'll always be able to fit in time for non-school books!

message 595: by Arax (new)

Arax | 1 comments I am Arax. If U check my birthday certificate you'll see that I am not a teen anymore, but I have never stopped buying teen books. This doesn't mean that I don't read adults book. but to be honest, I don't think they are really good. Most of their stories are not what I really like. They are things that we can already see in our everyday lives. What I really like about teens and children's book is the imagination that the writers put in these kind of books. I haven't read most of the books in English. But I will try to discuss them in English!

message 597: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latashamd) Hey there! I'm Latasha, and I'm 21 so I still qualify as a young adult... right?! I love YA books, especially paranormal fiction (I love me some vampires!) I don't really like adult books, I feel they try too hard to be something like controversial or thought-provoking. Most of the time I just wonder what the writers are smoking?! YA books do what I want books to do... Entertain me and take me into their world! I'm glad I found Goodreads and this group so I can find recommendations and people who like what I like!

message 598: by Jazmyn (new)

Jazmyn Burton Hello, my name is Jazmyn. I am sixteen and I am from Kentucky. Just about all i read is YA novels, haha. I spend about 80% of my life reading. i love books that stretch the imagination, the farther from reality the better! i am a very imaginative person, and i am a HUGE daydreamer.
