In fact, 11 out of their 17 coasters rate at the highest thrill level. This is definitely the place to go if you are a roller coaster junkie!! There are 9 themed areas to explore with one dedicated to the Wild West. Thrill rides and roller coasters abound and the popular Fire Whip coaster reaches speeds of over 60 mph. The park has five themed zones one being the popular Zootopia which includes an open zoo with wild animals that "run free". The 17 country-themed areas are very impressive and takes you on a tour through Europe with the addition of dynamic roller coasters, wild water rides and exciting shows. Opening in 1952 as a simple nature park and Fairy Tale Forest designed by Dutch illustrator Anton Pieck, Efteling Park evolved into a full-sized theme park with a mission to keep alive the cultural heritage of fairy tales. All its rides and attractions, including its 6 roller coasters are based on folklore, fairy tales, legends and myths. Bonita | 194 comments Thanks, Jan! I have not bothered to create a bucket list - until now! I want to go visit them all!! I've been to Cedar Point almost annually since the early 80's but had never heard of the others. My husband is currently laid up with a broken ankle so we're just dreaming at the moment :-)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 173 comments And I start already with a question *grins*

For Read the oldest book on your TBR (tell us when it was added) can I use any of the book I added the very first day I joined GR (12/31/14) or only the very first I've not read yet?
I really would love to knock off as many of those oldies as I can but I'm no more sure if I ever will read any of the first five. If it has to be the very first I'll just go for a different task in this park.

message 22: by Jan (new)

Jan | 9939 comments Agnieszka - no worries about questions...LOL.

Yes, you can use any book you added the first day you joined GR . If that doesn't work, then choose a different task for the park.

While many of its buildings were destroyed during WWII, the park still retains a number of historic structures and attractions, including the famous Chinese theater. In recent years, it has invested in several modern thrill rides, including the exciting floor-less roller coaster Daemonen (The Demon). In fact, 11 out of their 17 coasters rate at the highest thrill level. This is definitely the place to go if you are a roller coaster junkie!! Theme Park Fun Around the World
August 1, 2019 - October 31, 2019
9/9

Tasks

*****1. TIVOLI GARDENS: Copenhagen, Denmark
Denmark has the two oldest operating amusement parks in the world. The most popular
being Tivoli Gardens, which has been welcoming visitors since 1843. Rides were a part of its original offerings, along with beautiful gardens, live entertainment and eating establishments. While many of its buildings were destroyed during WWII, the park still retains a number of historic structures and attractions, including the famous Chinese theater. In recent years, it has invested in several modern thrill rides, including the exciting floor-less roller coaster Daemonen (The Demon). The park is a true classic and a definite must-see if you are in Denmark.

🎢 Read the oldest book on your TBR (tell us when it was added) OR
🎢 Read a book with a title that starts with a letter in TIVOLI - The Passion of New Eve by Angela Carter -8/11/19- 187p.

OR
🎢 Read a book that takes place in Denmark.

*****2. CEDAR POINT: Sandusky, Ohio
The oldest amusement park in the US is known as the "roller coaster capital of the world". It's been bringing fun to the shores of Lake Erie since 1870. The park has won numerous awards and set many records for having the most coasters over 200 ft tall, including Millennium Force which has conquered the 300 ft mark. In fact, 11 out of their 17 coasters rate at the highest thrill level. This is definitely the place to go if you are a roller coaster junkie!! There are also drop towers, flume rides and “midway” game areas that add to the fun. Even the little ones have three areas based on Charlie Brown's Peanuts gang. There is definitely something for everyone!

🎢 Read a book with a total page count over 300 pages (share count) - Catch-22 by Joseph Heller 8/27/19-453p.
OR
🎢 Read a book by an author whose first AND last initial can be found in CEDAR POINTOR
🎢 Read a book that takes place in the USA.

*****3. BETO CARRERO WORLD: Penha, Brazil
Latin America’s largest theme park, Beto Carrero World has been captivating visitors since 1991. It was the dream of a man who adopted the stage name “Beto Carrero” for his cowboy character in Brazilian movies and he is now featured in the park. There are 9 themed areas to explore with one dedicated to the Wild West. Thrill rides and roller coasters abound and the popular Fire Whip coaster reaches speeds of over 60 mph. The thrill of the rides are matched with the park’s high-octane productions including the show of motorized acrobatics named "Fast and Furious".

🎢 Read a book with a cowboy hat on the cover OR
🎢 Read a book with a title that has two words in it that start with the letter F or the letter W (Ex: Fast and Furious/Wild West) - The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells-192p.-8/13/19
OR
🎢 Read a book that takes place in SOUTH AMERICA.

*****4. ESSELWORLD: Mumbai, India
Located on the outskirts of Mumbai, EsselWorld is India’s largest theme park. It
includes several high-adrenaline rides, a water park, a discotheque, a massive food court, a bowling rink and a huge ice skating rink. This definitely offers more than the average park. It is the most sought after attraction to visit in Mumbai for a day of fun and adventure. The park is known for having huge parties and concerts – the New Year’s Eve Bash is always a sold out event. This diverse park is definitely a winner!!

🎢 Read a book in which the MC attends a party or concert -Romeo attends a ball at the home of Juliet (in disguise) in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare-283p.- 8/30/19
OR
🎢 Read a book whose author has SS (double S) in their name OR
🎢 Read a book that takes place in INDIA.

******5. EVERLAND: Gyeonggi-Do, South Korea
South Korea's largest theme park is operated by a subsidiary of Samsung. The resort opened in April of 1976 as a single theme park, but developed into a resort with water parks, hotels, speedways, museums and a golf course. The park has five themed zones one being the popular Zootopia which includes an open zoo with wild animals that "run free". The park is one of the first to use virtual reality goggles in its ride Robot VR. But the most popular ride is T Express - one of the longest wooden roller coasters in the world that includes a 77 degree drop.

🎢 Read a book with a wild animal on the cover OR
🎢 Read a book that was published in April OR
🎢 Read a book that takes place in ASIA.- Bahrain- Two Old Fools on a Camel: From Spain to Bahrain and Back Again by Victoria Twead-8/4/19

******6. EUROPA PARK: Rust, Germany
Europa Park is Europe's second most popular theme park and still manages to feel
non-commercial and endearingly quirky. Opened in 1975 by the Mack family who have been in fair and circus production for over 200 years, it is still family owned and run by them. The 17 country-themed areas are very impressive and takes you on a tour through Europe with the addition of dynamic roller coasters, wild water rides and exciting shows. It’s an imaginative and fun experience that is even educational, making it the perfect theme park for families. In winter the park becomes a seasonal fantasia with fairy lights, European Christmas markets, and loads of snow – both real and artificial.

🎢 Read a book with a MC whose first name starts with a letter in MACK OR
🎢 Read a book where "family" is very important to the plot - the MC brings his son and nephew on a business trip on his boat that becomes very problematic in The Black Joke by Farley Mowat-218p.-8/13/19
OR
🎢 Read a book that takes place in Europe.

*****7. EFTELING PARK: Kaatsheuvel, Netherlands
We head to the Netherlands to discover a hidden gem that summons magic, ancient myths and lore. Even the live shows emphasize magical themes, including its water show, Aquanura – the largest of its kind in Europe. The whole park is enchanting making it a true “one of a kind” experience.

*****8. ALTON TOWERS: Staffordshire, England
Who builds a theme park on the grounds of an old gothic country house? England,
of course!! Named after the estate it sits on, Alton Towers Resort was strategically
built around the original mansion allowing it to lend itself to the atmosphere. The thrill ride, Nemesis is a masterpiece of design, with the inverted coaster racing around an enormous pit excavated in the Staffordshire countryside. Adding to the atmosphere is the fact that the estate has a dark history and the mansion is said to be haunted. The venue has become a favorite with ghost hunters due to the ghostly activity that has
been reported throughout the park.
