Devious Read(er)s - Ishita ♥ Ipshita
Oye ipshi, let's do Count after ATOTC? Sorry, I still haven't progressed much. My brother has his exams.. You know how it is, right? Esa lagta hai mere he exams start hogye *hides face*
I was thinking the same thing. Though I wanted to ask that after we managed to finish ATOTC. And I'll be very busy this first week of April both with review books and real life. I really get panicked when my social life becomes active all of a sudden :|
Ipshi, it's okay. You're still far ahead of me. Way way ahead :PIn ATOTC!
Sou- really? Abhay said he couldn't sit through the first 10 mins! I have a bad feeling about this -_-
Sorry, I'm still on the 3rd chapter :P will try to finish it soon!
PS- sorry about ATOTC
PPS- am I really? :P
PPPS- do I really need to answer? :P
Oye, what do you think of Middlemarch? I haven't so much as even been near a George Eliot for a really long time!
Ishita wrote: "Oye, what do you think of Middlemarch? I haven't so much as even been near a George Eliot for a really long time!"Are you asking me? Cause we still have a lot of ATOTC left.
PS- ATOTC takes less work to type, sorry :P
Lol, I haven't been reading a lot of ATOTC lately :PHow about you? How far?
Yes, I am asking you. There's this awesome discussion going on about it in my classics group and I am just so intrigued! I've been meaning to read it so why not? Plus, I've been asked for this Madame Bovary Buddy Read and.. I sort of said yes (oops!). Would you like to join in on that too? ^_^ it's not well until next month! Plus there's also this Wuthering Heights reread :P
I can't commit to anymore books right now, so you can go ahead without me. And I didn't read ATOTC after that.
What a guy gotta do to get a reading buddy for Classics mentioned below:~Hamlet
~A portrait of the artist as a young man
~Heart of Darkness
~Wuthering Heights
Let me know who's interested.
~RP
I've already read Hamlet. I'm doing a reread on Wuthering Heights this month or the next at the latest. You can join in too if you like, we can make it a group read :)I'm in for the other two too if it's not an immediate read and we can take it slow. Lemme know :)
I'm all up for Wuthering Heights! I'm currently reading The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. Once I'm finished with that, we can take up Wuthering Heights this month or next, whatever suits you.
Two other books mentioned need to be read slowly. In fact, Classics should be read slowly. They taste better that way!I can wait around to read them but it needs to be before August 2015 at least :p
One more thing, I'm new here so please do share information on how you guys proceed and how you guys intend to keep connected while reading the book.
~RP
That's all we do here! And they're way more fun when read in a company. We make book thread or buddy read threads whatever suits best. We can discuss it there. Since Wuthering is gonna be read in a group, we can make a book thread for it.Before August '15? I'll have to get back to you on that. I'm packed with books and swamped with family functions and colleges. I'll try :)
Im doing A Clockwork Orange right now too. How're you liking The DaVinci Code? Makes you think about the stuff that you know, doesn't it?
I'm thinking of finishing few classics -novels, poetry books and plays - before Nov-Dec 2015. That's the reason for Aug 15 deadline. But that's okay! We can work it out later. Do let me know when you start reading Wuthering Heights! I'm eagerly waiting to read it.
I have finished almost 30% of The DaVinci Code. So far, it has exceeded my expectations. It's probably the best thriller I will ever read!
Alright! Let's get the party started! Yay!
Let's read some books, shall we? :D
~RP
I've already read Hamlet. I'm interested in doing a reread of Wuthering Heights after May. Have you read Heart of Darkness, Ishu? I've read Conrad's The Secret Sharer, and if the writing is anything similar then we might be in for a yawn-a-thon, his writing is good but the plot moves at a snail's pace.I'm interested in reading A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Rishikesh. Also, I hope you're liking The DaVinci Code, it's the best one out of the entire series in my opinion.
Let's do The Portrait first. I tried Ulysses last year but couldn't do it. It's said you'll understand that better once you've read this and Homer's Odyssey. I'm planning on doing exactly that!Ipshi, I've heard of it but never tried anything by the author. I hate slow plots! Just hoping it's nothing like what you've read!
Okay then, we can do that after May. That'll be better for me too. And I'll remind you the next time :)
Oh my gosh, you seriously tried reading Ulysses, even our professors are wary about that book :P And yes, you've got to read Odyssey first. Which reminds me, I read Oedipus Rex before my last round of exams started but forgot to update it on GR.. I don't even remember the date -_-As far as I can tell about Conrad's works, there'll be an undertone of homoerotism, his descriptions are beautiful, but the plot will move slowly, and there's symbolism in almost every object....kinda like Mansfield's short stories.
Lol, yeah! But it's such an epic novel I have to read it! Maybe some other time. Oh, that's another awesome book! How'd you like it?Katherine Mansfield? I love her works! I read The Garden Party last year and it was amazing! I'll have to check if I put it on my shelves or not but I remember really, really liking it. I'm intrigued about Conrad now. Let's give him a go, I'd like to try something new.
Oedipus Rex is pretty intense. What about ATOTC? Tell me when you finish the first part, I won't proceed anymore until you finish that part.
Conrad will be really boring...but I suppose, with you pushing me to read it, I might actually be able to finish it.
I've been credited for my persistence :PI haven't been getting a lot of time to read and whatever I do, I devoted it to A Clockwork. I don't have ATOTC with me today but I'm through the first two chapters. Rest three are also small. I'll do a little DC tonight and I'll try to complete the first part of ATOTC by the day after or at most, by Sunday.
I won't :)That book looks really interesting! Where did you find it?
Let's do it. Though I can't make any promises for this year. We'll see what goes, but we'll do it for sure :)
Greetings!I agree with Conrad's slow paced plots and his beautiful descriptions. But he's in my MA English syllabus books so I must read that book. -_- I have purposefully come up with books with less number of pages and this book is one of them. Lol :p
Let's start with A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man! I started reading it already but abandoned it 1 month ago. We can start it together.
let's also read Wuthering heights and Pride and Prejudice together. Do let me know when.
Ipshita: I must say that The DaVinci Code is probably the best book I have read after 1984 and The Stranger. I have finished almost 60% of the book and so far, I haven't been able to stop myself from turning the pages (or tapping the kindle :p ) I'm loving this one! And yes, this is much better than movie -_-
I won't be joining you guys for Pride & Prejudice. I read that book just last year and not in a mood to reread it just yet. Wuthering Heights after May. Ipshi will join us too then. And I hope we're not starting A Portrait this month? I need a break from screens- I just completed 1 ebook. That's my limit- and I can't buy a new book this month.
Ishita: No issues. I understand your issues with screen. If your reading on laptop, then that's kind of scary! Take care! :) We'll read Portrait and wuthering heights whenever possible. But we must read it before August 2015 :p
~RP
I read it mostly on iBooks but it's still a tough task for me. I've been averse to ebooks until last year and only just started then. I'm not a screen-person anyway, cannot spend long hours with them :PThanks, I think I can manage that :)
@Rishikesh I just reread P&P last month. I'm in my second year BA so that book is in my syllabus too. I'm going to read Dubliners this month, you can join if you're interested. The offer's open for you too, Ishu.
Darn! I wanted to read that too :\But I'll have to say no. I'm too packed for 2 months. Let's see if something else works out :)
Greetings!Finished reading The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown in just 4 days! I had the best APPLE-some time reading it. :)
I'm speechless in front of such a great book!
Well, do let me know girls whenever and whatever you decide to read! I'll be there :D
PS: I just noticed that Ipshita - (P) = Ishita!
~RP
Currently we're reading A Tale Of Two Cities. We're not very far ahead. Just the first book which is about 53 pages. I compete it over the weekend. We start the next book (in ATOTC, I mean) the next week. You can join in if you like :)P. S. you're quick! :P
Ishita: If I was quick then only Dan Brown is to be blamed for that. His books are truly amazing, I must say. I'm not so sure about A tale of two cities. Give me some time to decide. :/
Abhay: I'll definitely read A&D soon. But before I pick it up, I got a few classics to finish.
~RP
Rishikesh- you remind me so much of a friend I made here on GR. He can keep going on and on about him! He's such a crazy fan of Brown and he was so mad when he accepted my request but not his :PNo compulsion. Take your time :)
Rishikesh wrote: "Greetings!Finished reading The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown in just 4 days! I had the best APPLE-some time reading it. :)

Rishikesh if you like the kinda books Dan Brown write, you really should not missSam Bourne. His story telling is quite different but the chills are the same. I read The Righteous Men and it was great.
I'll start on Thursday. We have a family occasion tomorrow and the day after is the Bengali new year celebration.
Okay then we'll start together. I'll get some time for DC and Candide too!Have fun with the celebrations :D
What family occasion? Anything special?
Ipshi, where are you?Acha I wanted to ask you if you can start book 2 in ATOTC today? I've got exams coming so I won't be able to read on a stretch, I'll read as and when I get time. So if you're not starting it, is it okay if I do? I've got some free time tonight!
