The heroine is afraid to work in the prison but is forced to by someone (can’t remember who-family maybe?) the prison is far underground and all the prisoners have powers. The guards are terrified of them. One of the prisoners pays a lot of attention to her and she becomes his guard. He is the leader of his people. There was a lot more to it. In the end they all end up escaping and take over her town which is isolated because of having this secret prison.

Thanks for moving this. I read this book before Supernatural Prison by Jaymin Eve came out so it was likely sometime between 2013 and 2015. Now every time I do a search for it Supernatural prison comes up instead. Any help would be appreciated.

I can’t recall the types of powers the prisoners have. The heroine is human but there is something special about her that draws the hero to her. The prisoners have been locked up for over 1000 years. Their cells are sound proof.
This book is a stand alone but there was a blurb in the back for a book about one of the other characters.
In the beginning of the book the heroine has to go way down these twisted stairs into the dark to reach the prison. She is with a group of other people. One of them falls and dies and the guards escorting them just brush it off like it is nothing.
