Jake | 4 comments Percussion(Drums, Marimbas, etc..) rock way more than all the other instruments, because it actually takes skill to play them, unlike the stupid saxophone, flute, clarinet, trumpet, etc..., they take no skill to play, and when played they sound like dying animals!!!!!!!!!

i am a fellow percussionist but i'd have to disagree because the other instruments are the ones actually making music and they do take a lot of skill to play.

ya scusa i play three OTHR instruments it takes a lot of practice!

message 7: by Jake (new)

Jake | 4 comments I would like to add that all Percussionists need to know how to play the piano, because half the instruments are just like huge pianos with less keys, I do play the piano, but I hate it

Anony-miss a-non-y-miss | 21 comments Percussion does have a role in a lot of music, weather it rock or something else.

I've played cello for almost two years .. and it isn't the easiest thing in the world.

I must disagree with you there Jake. Drums and Maracas etc. really only take a sense of rythm and maybe a dash of skill. Drums take more skill than the rest of the percussion instruments, except the piano, where I find them equal. I teach myself to play and I can just play songs on piano by me hitting what sounds right. So I can basically play right off the spot. Drums I haven't played them alot, but I've dabbled and I found it very easy. I am going to take guitar lessons, but I've already taught myself a bit. Brass and Woodwind family I have no interest in. So it mostly takes talent is what I'm trying to get at. If you have no musical talent, then you can't play. I know people who are incredible at drums, but suck at guitar and vise versa. So what I'm trying to get at is your statement has some false information. But I digrese

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 118 comments i play piano and used to play violin, and while i agree with jake that it takes some skill to play percussion, string instruments r so much harder and take so much more skill....

I played Viola for a year and I was very good at it. I quit because everyone else sucked because they weren't paying attention. It sounded like a cat giving birth to an elephant. Also that rosin stuff gave me a really bad headache.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

lol, i played bassoon and it's a reeeally hard instrument to play, and it always sounds like a dead goose being squeezed to get the air out of it O.o but i play drums too and they take as much skill as any other basic instrument.

I see what your saying, but doesn't it take a basic understanding of rhythm to play them? I've seen people who can't play an instrument, sing or dance because they have no rhythm.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah but you need rythm for everything, and the drums/percussion is the basis of that rythm.

message 17: by ♥ Rachel♥ (new)

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 118 comments not necessarily the basis. it all depends on what song ur playing on what. but percussion does have the strongest rhythm.

I know, that's what I'm saying

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah, plus in jazz bands and pep bands the drummers are really important (at least in my school bands they are). like in my school's pep band everybody sucks at counting so there has to be a drummer.

XD

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

:P and my director doesn't do anything about it cuz i'm just that good at keeping the rythm. jk lol

the drums keep the beat in any kind of music so i think they are the best! If the drums aren't playing then the rest of the band just sounds boring, in my opinion.

Ringo Starr is the drummer for the Beatles. He is AWESOME!
