Dirk Van | 2706 comments I have a couple of less know artworks selected by this artist, but I doubt you guys will need more than one:

Geoffrey Aronson (geaaronson) | 930 comments I have no idea but it is gorgeous in its subtlety

Dirk Van | 2706 comments I like it too (That's why I posted it ;-)
I'm almost 100% sure that you know this artist's name!
No guesses?

Heather | 8273 comments I have no idea. It looks almost washed out. I love the landscaping. It reminds me of a 70s painting. But not the movement. Does that make sense?

message 6: by Heather, Moderator (new)

Heather | 8273 comments Ahh yes. I won't give it away but I looked it up because I would have no idea. This artist was almost exclusively landscapes in the end...

message 7: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments OK I'll give a first great hint: in contrast with Kandinsky, this is a work made in the later stages of his career.
If the date I found is correct the artist was 74!
The painting was sold by Christie's NY a couple of years ago for 1.2 million $!

message 8: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments Again I must admit I was wrong (lost my bet) So a second pic is needed and maybe a third and…

message 9: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey Aronson (geaaronson) | 930 comments still no idea. I am probably not familiar with this artist

message 10: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments I think that's highly unlikely Geoffrey ;-)
Remember he was really famous before he got a bit bored with what he was doing and decided to just paint these landscapes.

Chris Gager (chrisinmaine) | 332 comments Eakins?

message 12: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments Good guess, but wrong generation: this man died 50 years after Thomas Eakins.

message 13: by Chris (new)

Chris Gager (chrisinmaine) | 332 comments N. C. Wyeth?

message 14: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments Nope, but another good guess and a bit closer in age.

But could well have been: we had the son Andrew and the grandson Jamie already here, maybe N.C. for one of the next posts...

message 15: by Chris (new)

Chris Gager (chrisinmaine) | 332 comments Sargent?

message 16: by Heather, Moderator (new)

Heather | 8273 comments Those are good guesses, Chris!

message 17: by Connie (new)

Connie G (connie_g) | 360 comments Edward Willis Redfield?

message 18: by Dirk (last edited Apr 20, 2019 10:52AM) (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments Also a good guess, our artist has almost the identical age of Redfield.
I think Redfield with his 95 years was just a couple of years older.
But is he really that famous?
I just looked him up and it seems he made landscapes like this for most of his life there was no shift in mid-career...

message 19: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments Sorry Chris it's not Sargent and not Redfield.

message 20: by Heather, Moderator (new)

Heather | 8273 comments This artist wasn’t ever discussed in any of my Humanities classes, but I have heard of him.

message 21: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments All right so a third pic is necessary, personally I think this is a giveaway…

message 22: by Kristine (new)

Kristine Henshaw (kristilou) It's gotta be Maxfield Parish!

message 23: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments Of course!

Good one Kristine! I thought the colors of this last one would make it obvious.

message 25: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 1890 comments I wouldn’t have known or was Parrish until this last picture.

message 26: by Dirk (new)

Dirk Van | 2706 comments If I had posted this last one first it would have lasted only 20 minutes or so ;-)

message 27: by Chris (new)

Chris Gager (chrisinmaine) | 332 comments I knew the color and lighting looked familiar. I used to have the one above in my kitchen - sheesh!
