Dawn | 9 comments I enjoyed this book, but it was depressing- everyone betrays each other, innocents are killed, family ties destroyed etc etc It was pretty relentless.

I agree with Dawn. It is full of betrayals. Mere witnesses are beaten and killed by the police. The only thing that seems to matter is staying on the good side of the president which is not easy. He seems to exert his power over others just to show power, not to accomplish anything.

Monique | 10 comments I know I'm late to the game on this discussion, but was anyone else just not able to get through this one? I was really excited to read it due to this group as well as the author's Nobel Prize. I tried and tried but it was so odd and oblique that after 100 pages in 3 weeks I finally had to return it overdue to the library.
