Notre Dame represents far more than just a building. It is the soul of the nation as witnessed by the huge sums immediately pledged by wealthy individuals for restoration; some 800 million euro last I heard.
In a similar vein, after the destruction of the Dresden Frauenkirche during the Second World War, the East German authorities had planned to build a car park on the site, but local feeling was such that they backed down. Following the reunification of Germany, a massive rebuilding of the church was begun in 1992 using the original architects's plans from the 1720s, and original features recovered from the ruins and carefully numbered by inhabitants after the bombing. The project was finished in 2005, a year ahead of schedule, and is a source of immense local pride.
Quite apart from its religious significance for believers, Notre Dame (and other contemporary buildings like it) are a testimony to the spirit of mankind. How they even built such an edifice without access to the construction techniques we have today. Countless other buildings have come, and as you say tech, gone in the centuries since, but Notre Dame endures through fire, war and revolution. May it rise again.

'Riding' well away with it this week, by a clear 9 point margin, is Low Rider by War, so Tim take the top step on the podium, well done sah!
And the 2nd place to stand next to Tim, reeping 23 whole points into the bargain, is Little Sister by Queens Of The Stone Age, so the second step goes to Johnny.
And we have another tie, two songs having a battle for the final step all to themselves, sitting ugly togther as they are, both managed to garner 22 points apiece, they are: Honky Tonk Woman by The Rolling Stones & Rawhide by Scott Walker.
