The difference between spamming and legitimate (and welcome) advertising sometimes comes down to simply taking a few moments to understand where you are, what you are doing, and who is watching.

First rule: read the title of the group.

Second rule: read the rules of the group.

Third rule: check out previous postings to see if what you wish to post is similar in tone and intent.

Fourth rule: Authors generally don't try to sell their books to other authors in an authors only group.

Fifth rule: If in doubt. Don't.

LOL. Check out the yahoo groups. Most of them have at least one promo day a week. I think, but don't quote me, that Manic Readers' promo day is Monday.

Promo day on The_Haunt for paranormal authors is Thursday.

Charlee Boyett-Compo has a fantastic chart on her website that tells authors where to promo on which day.
