Here you can nominate interesting books that were first published in French by authors from Eastern Africa (Burundi, Comores, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Réunion and Rwanda). Try to keep nominations to one per person - and you're welcome to second someone else's nomination.

In order to allow a maximum of people to join, easy reads are preferred! As well as books that are easily accessible.

Authors! Please note : Self-nomination is not allowed - but if you are an author and would like to promote your book, please feel free to do so in this folder. Thank you for your understanding!

I would like to nominate Ève de ses décombres by Mauritian author Ananda Devi.

Valerie (valroos) | 271 comments I thought I would find it hard to identify any books for this region (beyond Rwanda and Burundi) but I've found four I would be really keen on reading. Need to ponder which one I am going to nominate here - I have a hard time assessing which might be most accessible for everyone.

Laura | 262 comments I'd like to nominate Gael Faye Petit Pays, Burundi. I can't seem to be able to do links on mobile

Great choice Laura! Haven't read it yet, but a friend recommended it to me.
Here are the links (the GR mobile app isn't that user friendly...):
Petit pays by Gaël Faye

The four I have been looking at are:

For Ile Maurice: Natacha Appanah - Le dernier frère (which is also available in paperback and has also been published in English)

For l'ile de la Reunion: Mohammed Assaoui - L'affaire de l'esclave Furcy

For Madagascar: Annick de Comarmond Loin sous les ravenales

For Comoros: Ali Zamir - Mon étincelle

I'd like to second Eve out of Her Ruins by Ananda Devi - even if I'd be reading it in English :)

We have to winners:
- Ève de ses décombres par Ananda Devi
- Petit pays par Gaël Faye

What shall we do? Read both in the two coming months? Toss?

message 13: by Laura (new)

Laura | 262 comments Shall we do both? I'd be happy to
