R3: SS Sistas With Books (13)
Week #1: Spot 7: Alternative J
Book: Dark Seduction by Brenda Joyce
Finished: September 3rd
Rating: ★★★1/2
Review:
The world building has potential and the plot is absorbing, but neither the hero nor the heroine are particularly appealing.
Malcolm is a sexist Neanderthal, which is not unexpected given the fact that he is born in medieval times, but he has travelled to the future so he should at least me aware that a woman like Claire would not put up with his overbearing condescension.
Claire is not much better. She complains incessantly about Malcom’s behavior toward her, but spreads her legs at every opportunity, and comes across as both arrogant and superior.
Claire and Malcolm’s romance is non-sensical and is based solely on physical attraction. Their sex scenes are excessive, mechanical and emotionally detached. Moreover, the idea that a woman can be mesmerized into having sex against her will and even enjoy the experience is completely abhorrent.
In contrast, the secondary characters are far more engaging whether it be Malcom’s uncle, Royce, who appears to have given up on life, or his fellow Master, Aiden, whose bad boy tendencies hide a vulnerable heart. Even the arch-villain, Moray, who is undeniably a nasty piece of work, is more intriguing than the main couple.
In terms of the writing, Joyce’s prose style flows although the inclusion of Gaelic phrasing is unnecessary. In addition, the prologue contributes nothing to the story and only serves to confuse the reader by creating the impression that something has been missed.
All in all, the story has potential and the next book focuses on Royce so I’m willing to give it a try.

I'm gonna wait by posting my choice until the new number of Wacky's team challenge is called, to see if I can fit it into both.I have a lot of new series I plan to start so it won't be difficult to find a book.
I'm also going to wait until the TLC challenge words are called but I don't foresee any problems fitting a book in.

Review: I had heard so much about this series and love it's author ,that I wonder if I had to high of expectations....I don't love the story nor did I hate it...I liked it but it kept me wanting that wow moment that never happen but I will continue series and hope the next grabs me.....
Grace Carlyle's world was about to change . . .
Deep in the jungle on the trail of her missing brother, Grace never expected to find a secret world populated by mythological monsters -- nor guarded by a sword-wielding being whose beauty put mortal men to shame.
Darius en Kragin belongs to a race of shape-shifting warriors sworn to guard Atlantis and kill all travelers who stray within its boundaries. Yet when Grace stumbles into his realm, he finds himself tempted to betray his centuries-old vow.
Now their forbidden love will either bring their worlds together -- or tear them both apart.
Thanks for the review, Sue. I love Showalter's LOTU series but she's never been an author that I've gone completely ga-ga over so I'll make sure to adapt my expectations accordingly :0)

Review:
When Katy moved to the small town, to make a name for herself in her new firm. The last thing she needs is the distraction of a man. When she's given the client, Erik, who also happens to be the guy she spent an unforgetful one night stand with before. Erik knows he wants a repeat performance of that night, thinking he need to get her out of her system, while Katy wants to keep things strictly professional.
I liked the characters in this one. Both of them have been through a lot in the past, and it's easy to understand what they're both going through.
One of the things I didn't like was that at times it was pretty predictable, but some parts of the ending made up for that, as it did have some unexpected twist.
The writing was good, and it was a easy and comfortable read, and I want to continue the series. As it didn't leave me blown away I give it 3,5 ★
Week #2:Spot 16
Book: Storm Kissed by Jessica Andersen (Final Prophecy Book #6)
Finished: September 8th
Rating: ★★★★1/2
Review:
Storm Kissed is one of the better installments in a series that has such tremendous potential, but only occasionally hits the mark.
Once again, Andersen’s research is impeccable and the details on Mayan, Aztec and Native American lore add additional nuance to the action packed quest plot line. It is fun keeping track of the symbolism inherent in Dez and Reese’s search for the compass artifacts.
Dez and Reese’s are one of the more appealing pairs in the series and their romance is gripping from the start. Dez is an ambiguous hero with many secrets, but a real desire to transform himself and make amends for his past actions. Reese is strong, fierce and loyal although she does tend to overthink things and ignores her gut instincts, especially when it comes to Dez’s motivations. Their chemistry is riveting and their emotional attachment believable.
There are significant developments in the ongoing story arc and the twists and turns in the tale make for compelling reading. It seems that the Nightkeepers and their Winikin are moving in a new and interesting direction, and I am looking forward to Sven and Cara’s book next.
Great job everyone! I am the only one who needs to finish the book so hopefully I can finish tonight or by tomorrow.

Review: I really liked this book. There were really great scenes, I only really got this book because I loved the cover and didn't know what the book was about at all, but I enjoyed it. I thought this was a great book and the writing was great. I was annoyed with Violet many times but I forgive her only because of why she did it. I am excited to get onto the next book in this series.
- Violet
As I said, I didn't really like Violet but now I love her. She is an exceptional main character and is smart and amazing. I cannot wait to see her journey in the next books.
- Lincoln
I absolutely love Linc~ He is an amazing character and I feel that he deserves much more than her but if she is better in the next books I might reconsider that but I still feel that the perfect girl for him is me. Haha, no. I don't know how many times he had apologized and I was just begging for him to stop. I still am in love with his character and I am curious to see how their partnership is going to go through in the next book.
- Phoenix
I did not like Phoenix. I just did not like him at all. I always had an iffy feeling about him, I didn't like him. Please do not come in the next book! Please, please, please!!
Overall, the story captivated me. I think the main reason I only gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because Violet was bratty the entire book! It was at the last few chapters that I began to love her. I am glad with the way this book ended and as I said many times throughout this review, I am anxious to see how this series continues.

Emma Greyson is independent, intelligent and spirited, which makes her unsuitable for her chosen profession as a lady’s companion. The latest is a string of positions finds Emma at a country house party where the mundane activities of the ton take an interesting turn as she encounters the enigmatic Edison Stokes, a former member of the Vanzagarian society, who is in search of a secret manuscript and a killer who seems to have set their sights on Emma.
The Vanzagarian storyline shares many similarities with Krentz/Quick’s Arcane Society series - a secret society, a strange formula, a villain with nefarious motives, etc. This in and of itself is not a bad thing, but for those who have read the Arcane books, the mystery ultimately lacks originality and the suspense is diminished.
The romance fares better as Emma and Edison have strong chemistry, their banter is witty and their relationship relatively angst free. Edison’s backstory adds depth to his character and it is impossible not to feel for him. Emma is an engaging heroine and her relationship with Edison’s grandmother is one of the highlights of the story.
All in all, a quick and pleasant read for those times when one just needs to relax with a bit of fluff. On a side note, the Kobo version has several typos and formatting errors.

Review:
A killer is on the loose in Cincinatti. One that only kills witches. It doesn't take long for Rachel to be a part of the team trying to solve the case. Rachel is determed to get Kalamack convicted for the murders, and soon finds a clue that link back to him.
I really liked this book. It started in the middle of Rachel working on a case, so it was action filled by the beginning. One of the things I missed in the first book was the lack of romance, but I think this one had a bit more. I also liked how you got to know a lot more about Trenton, and not to mention Rachels childhood, which gives her a lot more character I think. The demon Algaliarept is super funny, too.
I liked the writing. One of the reasons I don't give it 5 stars is that I still think it is lacking something, and I can't seem to put my finger on what it is.

Review: I loved this book! This was a great add on to the series. I did love Pushing the Limits much better but this was a great second. I cried toward one of the ending chapters and I thought the writing was amazing. I love Katie McGarry's writing style and I would love to start the next book as soon as possible. I also really like how Katie does the dual point of views, fantastic.
- Beth
Remember Beth from Pushing the Limits? I did. I am glad this book was written about her and Ryan because I loved looking at both sides point of view. Beth was very aggravating throughout most scenes but I still loved her character. Even though it was stupid to believe her mother would ever change. From Pushing the Limits, I thought Beth was horrible, but we see much better sides of her through this book.
- Ryan
I love Ryan. I love him, I love him, I love him. He is so sweet and so nice and so handsome. He had a great sense of humor and I wish I could write like him, it was beautiful. There is so much to Ryan, especially with his family, that he doesn't show to everyone. I was stunned with how his parents were, I am grateful my family would support me in anything I did. Ryan is an amazing guy and I am so glad Beth found him, or he found her.
Overall, this was an amazing book. I laughed, cried a little, and was in love with this book. I am so excited to get to the next book, I want to read more of Katie's writing and the third book looks promising. I was close to giving this book 4 stars instead but only because of Beth's attitude. Obviously, I understand why she acts like that but it gets annoying after awhile, but I felt that the book overall deserved 5 stars.

Review:
This book follows Mira, also known as Fire-starter. After controlling the New World for a while, she stumbles upon a Vampire hunter. Her first intentions with him was to kill him, until he reveals that something far worse is back. She has to go against everything she believes, trust her enimy to try and fight the greater evil - the naturi.
I was really looking forward to read this book, so my hopes were high from the beginning. Sadly it wasn't what I was hoping for. The first part was pretty boring, and I didn't feel much for the characters. The last part of the story got better and the characters developed a little during the book.
The writing of the book was ok. The worst part was that I didn't like the characters in the beginning. Overall and ok book.
