Jim, thanks for your quick reply! That's definitely not it - A Dark Traveling has some fantasy elements like the werewolf MC that were not a part of this story, and that one at 150 pages is way longer than the one I'm looking for.
You're welcome. Another thought:"It's a Beautiful Day" by Asimov

Not that I can think of offhand, but they're all collected now in one volume - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingathe...
I also know that The People stories had the ability to fly (lift), but not instant teleportation. They also tended to group together. The idea of living away from the Group was unthinkable. They had telepathy and felt isolated living alone.
Thanks Kate & Jeanette. I'll try some People stories and hope to find it... but in the meantime still looking for the definitive answer.
Larry Niven had a series of stories about easy teleportation - here's a list of the stories http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pe.cgi?1...

A loosely connected extended family owns multiple houses in various locations around the earth, and travel to any of them is instantly possible using portal doors at each house. Whenever someone gets an itch to travel, they can pick up and head out to another of the family's holdings. Whenever someone wants to be alone, they can head off to one of the more isolated spots. I remember this as a story more about the "what if" possibility of this technology and how that would shape families and communities rather than it being a plot-driven thing. Thanks in advance!!
