Harry potter over Twilight?

I think Harry potter wins over Twilight by a mile. But I do know a lot of HP fans who are also big Twilighters! So I was just wondering how many people like Harry Potter over Twilight or Twilight over Harry Potter!

Harry Potter is insanely better than Twilight. There's not even any competition. Harry Potter has better characters, a more interesting plot, and it you can't sum up 90% of Harry Potter as "Edward is hot."
I agree completely! JKR thought out what ever book was pretty much gonna be like. And what ever author who wrote Twilight, Just winged it as she went along. And yes, the characters aren't very good and well thought! Sorry Twilighters!

Harry Potter has a plot, it has character development, and you learn something from it. Twilight lacks in all those and more.But there is no competition beween the two, and there is no relation except for werewolves and the ones in Twilight aren't really that great. So in terms, there is nothing that could be said about the two, since they have no relationship and shouldn't be compared.
Other then that Harry Potter for the win!

i think stephenie meyer created a wonderfull world!
no offense...harry potter is awesome too..it's just...well i kinda understand the characters...and i simply love them......i think stephenie is great....
but i really hate it when you try to compare them!
cause JKR is pretty awesom too!..she's practically genius :P
i mean...if u prefer harry potter...well..than i'm okay with it..but don't go saying that harry potter is better...

her books are written in bella's, jacob's and edwards perspective.....

i mean...why a person does certain things...you know when someone says something to you...something that hurts your feelings...you might take it the wrong way...if you don't consider the possebility that they might be hurting worse than you...right?

What I learned from Twilight: Edward is hot and he smells nice.Third person does a better job showing people's emotions because we aren't limited to the narrator's point of view.
Harry Potter is also wierd, funny, serious, and educational, and it deals with many themes that we face in everyday life, such as prejudice.
uhm....maybe because you guys have a lot of friends...hang out a lot( idk )...you can't see how wonderfull jacob is...
his character is abselutely perfect...he's funny, observant..and he is a jerk but he knows when he's done wrong, so he apologizes.....
and edward....wow..he's supposed to be reaaly old..he's well..he seemed to me...a bit bored..and than come u ( well if u think yourself as bella for a moment)...and as bella your depressed, kinda frustrated, lonely...you don't have any close friends..just ur mom and she's not with u....can u guess how lonely you are...and edward reads minds..but he can't read urs...ur like a puzzle to him :)there begins his interest (i think)..adn you're suppose to be clumsy and not perfect...and he comes along and his perfection just stuns you...(like - and +) you are attracted to him....and his so fascinated with you...that he doesn't want to leave your side...and your happy cause a hole is filled which you didn't even know you had and when he's gone...u notice that hole...and u realize how deep that hole is/was..and it's echo...hurts like crap
and than he falls in love with you too....wow..

well.....i do kinda find third person irrating...sorry...it's just....i like knowing what people think...can u understand me....than people can't lie..uhm i mean u know then when a person is lying..or character in this case.....
with third person..you only get to see the outcome...not how and why...well...sometimes you do (maybe) but mostly not.....i find it very irrating...sucks

With Jacob, I think he's awesome! I think that every character, except for Edward and Bella, is great! I especially love Edward's family. What you said is all true, but that's all there really is to the story. The villians don't come in until, I think, around page 350. That's 350 pages that can be summed up in a paragraph.

Yeah, I don't like the main characters. I wrote a response on another group to a person who listed a bunch of complaints on Twilight. Some of them, I agreed with. Others, not so much.If you like, I could copy and paste it here.

I have a few opinions on Aaric's long comment on Twilight. I agree on some points, but not on others. It also has random comparisons between Twilight and the German musical Elisabeth. 1.Bella is a perfect character ("Mary Sue"), which Meyer hides by calling her clumsy. She's not flawless. You cannot call her whiny, clingy, and unhealthily dependent while also called her flawless.
3.She can't do anything without Edward. True. She is a bit too dependent on him.
4.And when he leaves she attempts to commit suicide. Ok. She is *way* too dependent on him. This is one of the reasons that I like Elisabeth better. One of the main points of Elisabeth is about Elisabeth's struggle to be free and independent from everyone, including the romantic lead, Death.
5.Meyer is living out her own fantasies by writing about Bella, who is clearly herself. Plenty of people do that. Not many get rich off of it. I'm not using that as a compliment for her, just as a statement. Imagine if you could get rich by writing your fantasty life...
6.The books aren't well written, just because every other word is a fancy adjective doesn't make it good writing. I've heard a lot of things claimed about Twilight, but I've never heard anyone say that here use of "fancy" adjectives is a reason for liking it.
7.All the rules Meyer sets for being a vampire are broken by the end of the series. Like what?
8.Not only that, she breaks rules set by more esteemed authors. What rules do authors set? Isn't an author's job partly to do something new, that's not a convention. I'm not saying that she does, but I'm just saying that that's not really a valid argument.
9.The world population will come to an end because all girls who read this book will think they are Bella and will wait for their Edward to come until they are old. And he'll never come. This is my least favorite argument. Every girl I know who fangirls over Twilight is most impressed by his being respectful. It's a sad thing if wanting a respectful guy is setting our standards too high. I don't know any fangirl who is honestly waiting for a sparkly vampire boyfriend.
10.Bella almost dies fifty thousand times, but Edward always saves her. This is boring. If she died off in the beginning, there would be less books, and Steph Meyer would make less money.
11.Edward is too perfect and has no flaws either. Even vampires should have flaws besides wanting to suck human blood because it's natural to them. He has flaws. Just, no fans seem to acknowledge them. He is condescending, stalkerish, and he treats the boys who crush on Bella like dirt (am I the only one who thinks this last one?)
12.The reason the books became so popular is because Bella has no personality and any loser can put themselves in her shoes. Books can be written as a fanasty, as an escape from reality. I've imagined myself in the place of many heroines, that doesn't make them bad heroines from bad books.
14.Bella teaches women to let the man handle everything, which pretty much is a huge step backward for women everywhere, who have fought for equality. This is why I like Elisabeth. She fights to remain independent fromt the men in her life.
17.Bella is a useless, whining, doll that suddenly has become the idol for girls everywhere. It's true that she's not much of a role model.
19.Edward is extremely possessive, border-line abusive, and boring as anything.
It's too cliché. The main problem I have with his behavior is that Bella doesn't fight back. She does whatever he tells her. Once again, this is why I like Elisabeth better. Death (the romantic lead) is cocky, full of himself, and sometimes agressive, but Elisabeth goes against him and his ego, and can fight against his agression.
22.You don't have to describe the character every two pages, we know all about Edward's 'perfectly toned chest' the fourth time she mentions it. Quite true. The descriptions did get tiresome after a while.
25.Her vampires sparkle. Enough said. The sparkling vampires was an interesting idea. I honestly like it, although it's not that intimidating.
27.There is too much face touching. I have no problem with the face touching. It's cute at times.
30.Meyer can't think of original names. The only original name she used was Rennesme, which is combination of two names and doesn't count. Since when is original names necessary to be a good story?
33.People think Meyer is the best writer ever. People are allowed to think she is the best author, just as you're allowed to disagree.
35.Wow, yet another 'original' plot of forbidden love. Shakespeare wasn't very original either, and no one ever gave him a hard time. (I am *not* comparing Meyer's overall abilities to Shakespeare)
36.Why is it called the Twilight Series if only one book is titled Twilight? Why is the Gone series called so when only the first is called "Gone"?
37.It's too easy to mock. Go on Youtube, how many mocks on Twilight do you see? How many Harry Potter parodies do you see?
39.Stephanie Meyer creates some interesting characters ie: Jasper and Alice. She then ignores them, and gives them no development. This is my biggest pet peeve in the whole series. I love the minor characters!
43.It's stupid. My least favorite type of argument. It's right up there with "Shut up".
46.Meyer wrote four books about nothing, really. Have you ever wandered through the romance section of a book store. There are so many romance series with 20, 30 books. Do you think they have much of a plot?
47.Straight men sparkle? Yes, they do. The Hungarian Deaths are very sparkly and very straight.
51.Do any guys actually like Twilight? Yes, one of my friends from another thread is a guy, and Twilight is one of his favorite books.
53.There's far too little actual conflict in the story. But this probably stems from having a flawless main character. The first part is true, although you can easily have conflict with a "flawless" main character.
54.They fall in love way too quickly and it seems fake because no one falls in love instantly, especially teenagers. I believe in love at first sight. I don't think it always happens, but it does happen sometimes. Elisabeth and Death fell in love at first sight.
55.They only love each other because she smells good and he's hot. There's no other given reason why. That is true...
56.It's just not healthy to teach young girls that True Love involves the guy watching you while you sleep. That was *really* creepy.
58.She had only been in Forks for a month when Edward had been watching her sleep for two months. I did not even realize that. I wonder if that's a typo, or if Edward is just really stalkerish...
It also really annoys me when people discount people once they say that Twilight is one of their favorite books. People are entitled to their own opinions!
Congratulations if you read this all the way through. That takes an insane amount of pacience.

Harry Poter..the plot is more addictive..nd there's a different aadventure and a MAAJOR mysstery into it.Also, you see how harry grows and become into his own as the Chosen One. Twilight is too..lovey dovey.Harry Potter= More Sci-Fi Action and Mystery

Okay I was cracking up while reading the reasons... Even m mom, a twi fan was laughing. Most of that stiff is true, especially 57.

I think that was why it was true and funny.
I hate when anyone compares ANY book series to Harry Potter. The one thing they both have in common (I'm only speaking for myself here) is the addictiveness of reading them. When I read (and read & read & read) the HP Series for about 2 months AFTER I finish, I'm still thinking about them. My brain just doesn't want to leave Hogwarts. When I read the Twilight saga (the first time) I went nuts! There was a day between me finishing Twilight & going out to buy New Moon and I was like a crack addict who didn't have their fix. There's no other way for me to describe it. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Both series are good, but Harry Potter will always be 1st on list!

It is the fact that the books have nothing in common, Harry Potter and Twilight reach out to different people, but because of the popularity of both and them being in the Young Adult section people love to compare. They do it with a lot of books in that section, compare new ones to Harry Potter, like Harry Potter was compared to Lord of the Rings(don't ask why). It always happens.
Harry Potter is still better. Its really that simple.
Because out of the two, Harry Potter grew, overcame evil and so on.
I personally think that there is no reason to compare them, they are both two TOTALLY different books and about two TOTALLY different ideas. That's basically likle saying you want to compare Percy Jackson and Twilight. You can't they are two TOTALLY different things. But in the end, Harry Potter will always win in my heart.

And you should also add that both books are written for young adults.
