Word of mouth, Booktube, and best sellers. Sometimes when a book cover looks cool or interesting I'll check it out also.
Sometimes it's what I've read last. Maybe after a sad book, I'll look for a happier, lighter one and after that probably something more serious. Which doesn't help you much. Oh well..
When I choose I try to go with themes i like, cover design and title, if I have read the author before, recommendations form family
I tend to go with topic, author, or friends' recommendations. I know covers are important but it's what's inside that counts. :-)
I am all about the cover. If the cover doesn't catch my eye, I'll probably never even read the synopsis. Unless it is highly recommended by a friend, in which case a plot that isn't super predictable is a good draw.
I choose based on cover, word of mouth, booktube, and synopsis. I know, don't judge a book, but I honestly won't read the synopsis if the cover is ugly.
I will go on booktube and see what is coming out soon. Then, the theme of the book plays a role. My mood is the last deciding factor.
I'm an impulse reader. I scan through a lot of what is on amazon to try to select new books. The downside is that I run into the wall of "I have already read this 10 times." My recommendation list and the books I select put me in a circle of books I've read until I'm trapped and I have to sneak into the top books in a category to find something new.
Most of the time it’s the book cover that catches my eye and then if the intro on the back sounds good I’ll get it. I also will grab books that are recommended from friends.
The cover usually catches my eye as it is meant to, but I have a tendency to avoid books where the author's name is bigger than the title. The Title also needs to interest me though, or I won't even pick it upAfter that, I read the Synopsis, and if I'm home I usually look up reviews for the book. If I see it a lot on bookstagram, or any other multimedia platform it really helps the book stick in my head, and I become more likely to read it.
If I like the book title, I’ll read the blurb, and if I like it/am intrigued I’ll get the book. My friends also recommend me a lot of books, so I read those as well. Goodreads recommendations are also great😂
The cover of the book normally catches my eye but I normally read the synopsis and that gives me a better idea if I will be interested in the book.
Friend recommendations, Goodreads and sometimes I just see it in the library, like the look of it / the title and pick it up. I tend not to judge it by the first few chapters and then put it down if I'm not enjoying it but that doesn't happen very often.
I am a reading in interventionist and read ya to be able to recomend books to my kiddos. plus I run a school wide book club. when I choose books to read for myself, I look for reviews and if the story catches my attention.

Good writing, interesting characters and plot. The blurb is the turning point.
Well, first, the cover..I can't help judging books by the cover although it's bad haha..and the second one is the summary.
Right now the main thing is BookTube and recommendations from friends. I also look at blurbs and occasionally, reviews. I rarely go by those though, because a lot of people have different standards than I do. I love how passionate people are about books. That's why I love BookTube. :)
It's the book cover that first catching my eye. If it does I'll read the back to see if the synopsis interests me enough to read it. Also booktube
@Emma booktube is a youtube community about books.usually readathons are what get me starting new series
I mostly browse here through some lists, pick out some books based on the title and cover, and by reading the synopsis I decide if I'm going to read it or not. Sometimes I also look at the rating of the book, if the synopsis doesn't sound too good but the ratings are high I tend to give it a chance still
Honestly, most books I see if the cover catches my eye first (which is terrible, I know) and then I see if the summary seems interesting. Sometimes I look for recommendations or books by authors I like, but it's mostly just by what I feel
All sorts of reasons for me: through friends, booktubers that I follow the most, books with appealing titles and summaries when browsing Apple books trending and offers lists, what others on Goodreads are reading so there isn’t one overriding way
I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover but.............Apart from that ifit has good reviews, always rely on reviews.
I honestly pick up a book based on how interesting I find the cover and/or title, and then decide on reading it based on the synopsis. I try to avoid the reviews as much as possible, as I've been tricked many, many times by hype reviews.
for some odd reason, if the cover is nice the story isn't the best (i.e. Emergency Contact. and we do not talk about that. ). if the description is good and a quick goodreads browse of the ratings, the book may do me good. bestsellers are also a commonplace I find new books, through friends, and movies that are based on books (i.e. Catch Me If You Can).

I try to read positive and negative reviews before going in, so I know what I’m getting myself into. It also helps to get to know trigger warnings.
booktok plays a huge factor now. if an author i love writes something new it’s basically an instant read. other than that, i go off the synopsis and cover if i go into barnes and nobles with no expectations
Goodreads really does it for me. A lot of you write amazing reviews and that's what leads me to buy a book or a series so its thanks to you guys so thank you very much for that <3
