I did a little research and found a book at our local library that fits for January. Crimson Angel, is part of a series of historical mystery novels based around a character named Benjamin January. It's not an author or title, but I figured the character's name would work too. Starting it today.

If you don't' get one month read you aren't out the whole year, just wait and do the next month.

No you do not. You can mix and match the options for each month.
And if you find a character, town or something significant named after the month in the story then that will work as well.
And you do not have to use just the Insights calendar as long as the book fits with something occurring in that month.

I'm reading one of those Benjamin January books too, but it is rough going for me. I'm finding it a really tough read.
I just started reading January First by Michael Schofield. The main character's name is January Schofield.

Okay, so I FINALLY finished the dumb January book I found, Crimson Angel. It was book 13 in the Benjamin January series of historical mysteries by Barbara Hambly. I WILL NOT be reading any of the others. I had to push my way through this one, and I LOVE historical fiction, so I thought this would be right up my alley especially since it dealt with the slave rebellion in Haiti, some voodoo superstitions, a cursed family treasure...sound good, right??? WRONG! Ugh! Keeping up with all the characters was confusing, too much text explaining backstories or historical references (like reading a textbook at some points), random foreign phrases thrown in without explanation, and numerous literary quotes that felt forced. Yeah, Benjamin January will just have to continue solving mysteries without me.

It is going well and slow. This is a more difficult book to read then I originally thought it would be. It is not my usual type of book to read.
For February I'm reading The Supreme Macaroni Company - book 3 of the Valentine Trilogy. No, haven't read books 1 and 2 - couldn't get my hands on them, but I don't think it will be an issue. The main character's name is Valentine, and she's about to throw together a big wedding in six weeks so that she can get married on Valentine's Day. So far it's been a lot of narrative to introduce her HUGE Italian family and catch the reader up to speed on what sounds like the plot lines of the first two books.
I finished reading January First: A Child's Descent into Madness and Her Father's Struggle to Save Her last night. It was a difficult book for me to read because I am not use to reading these types of books. I learned a little about what January went through and the pain that her family felt.I am hoping to find a cheerful read for February.
I did read February Fever by Jess Lourey last night. It was my last minute attempt to read a book for the month from the library. This is actually part of a Murder by Month mystery series.

I started this book but couldn't get into it so I didn't get February's book.

I finished The Supreme Macaroni Company, but not the other one I'd started. I'd like to finish it, but it will be later this year before that happens.
I got this month's book in on the last day but I got it!
Whose main character is Tobias March.
Wasn't a big fan of the heroine in this love story but liked the secondary characters.

I finished reading A Stardance Summer by Emily March today. It took a little getting use to because I came into the series late reading this book but I liked it.

Did you find one for April?

For April I read a book written in verse because it's national poetry month.
I tried reading a book called Look Again by Lisa Scottoline for May because, sadly, May is Missing Children Awareness month.
this book is about a reporter who receives a "have you seen this child" flyer and one of the children looks exactly like her legally adopted child. So she starts looking into everything.
It is good writing I just, haven't been able to get into the book so I am putting it aside for now for a future read.

Okay, bear with me. June 3 is Repeat Day and June 6 is National YoYo Day, so I'm tying that into Twice Loved, a story about a woman who married one of her best friends; he went off on a whaling ship and was thought dead, so she married her other best friend. Five years later, the first husband shows up alive! The story resolves itself with her eventually returning to her first husband, hence the repeat or yoyo theme. But wait! I'm not done...
Also June 8 is Best Friends Day - the three best friends are caught in this love triangle.
June 8 is also World Ocean Day, June 18 Go Fishing Day - husband #1 is lost on a whaling ship.
June 16 Fathers Day - husband #1 also had a child he didn't know about (of course) who was being raised by husband #2.
June 18 International Panic Day - the whole town panicked when husband #1 showed up.
June 19 National Kissing Day - lots of that going on.
June 23 - International Widows Day - she thought she was a widow.
And finally, June is traditionally a month for weddings, so...
And for May I'm using The Sentence is Death because May 25 is National Wine Day - the murder weapon was a very expensive bottle of wine. Also May celebrates National Police Week, and there are two very nasty police characters that feature prominently in this book along with the retired police detective helping with the case.

this is great!
you really tied it into the month!

I picked up Countdown to Valkyrie: The July Plot to Assassinate Hitler for my library book club and was excited it worked for this challenge for July.
But, I didn't finish the book. I will finish it before the next book club meeting though. (hopefully)

I read Summer Sisters for August because every August they went to Martha's Vinyard and that is when each section started.
I think if I had read this as a teenager I would have liked it more. I just didn't like the characters.
