NetGalley

Feed Your Readers, the NetGalley Challenge

Duration: Monthly

How to Participate:

The NetGalley Challenge is designed to not only get you to read your NetGalley books, but to also advertise your reviews for others to see because after all, that's what NetGalley is all about.

Though you may pop in/out at any time, the NetGalley Challenge will run on a monthly basis so you are able to see progress being made.

1. At the beginning of the month, post any/all of the following:
a: How many books on your NetGalley shelf
b: What books are on your NG shelf
c: What your Netgalley feedback ratio is

2. During the month, read the NetGalley books that you can AND update your post with your reviews. (You can do this after each book or wait until the end of the month.)

3. At the end of the month, update your post and with:
a: What books you read
b: Link(s) to your review(s)**
c: Your updated shelf count
d: Your updated books to read
e: Your updated ratio

Then start a new post for the next month!

But Wait, There's More

Do you ever get so caught up in your reading that you don't want to stop to write your reviews?

Thinking about that, it was decided we need a "Review Weekend", once each month, set aside to write those reviews you've been not doing in favor of reading!

Review Weekends will vary randomly each month and is meant to be a time set aside to review. Take one, or both days and get caught up on reviews so you can spend the rest of the month reading!!

The next Review Weekend is set for January 19/20

**When linking your reviews, please link only to the book(s) here at GoodReads. At this time, linking to a personal blog is not allowed. Thank you!

I hope you can prioritise the Hepworth book. You know I love her, and I just saw a terrible review for that book. Eek. So now I'm worried that she has written a fizzer :(

I hope not! That would be a bummer. I haven't read the newest Moriarty yet, but I did buy it assuming it would be good. I hope it's just a case of too high expectations of her work.

I had planned on reading The Mother-In-Law early this month, but I have one that is due to be published, so I need to read that one first. I'm trying to read the newer ones by publication date for a change and just catch up the older ones as quickly as I can.

message 14: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3601 comments Karen, how are you liking the Charley Davidson series? I know a lot of people planned to grab them through NetGalley when they were read now.

message 15: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3601 comments I'm considering picking up The Girl in the Corner by Amanda Prowse. I'm auto-approved for the publisher, so I feel like I should read some of their books occasionally. Plus, I like her writing well enough. The last book I read by her was excellent and this one has great reviews. I'm just not sure I want to add to my review list.

Plus, it was already published a couple of weeks ago, so it goes straight to my already published list. I never know what to do with books that have already been published except read them as soon as possible. I think I'll give myself the 3 months that they're on my "current titles" shelf to read books like that.

So, I still don't know. It is only available for a couple more days so I need to decide.

Vicki Willis | 498 comments Ha, the first day of the year and already decisions decisions...

I am starting the oldest one of my shelf today. I want to get those off!
Mister Tender's Girl Mister Tender's Girl by Carter Wilson
I think it is loosely based on SlenderMan.

Well I discovered that Hepworth book is now “read now” so I’ll be able to see for myself! But you’re right, we aren’t near publication date yet so it’s hard to get to it when I have so many others that have already been published.

I like Amanda Prowse too. I think you should grab it 😉 then give yourself those three months to read it

As for Charley, I got the first five and I’m currently into number three. I can see why she polarises people and I still don’t like the romance angle, but I find her quite funny and the stories just a bit of a romp. I don’t think they are “amazing”, but they are a fun read so far

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I'm still working my way through the Charley Davidson books too. Picked up the first 3 from Netgalley, got 4 and 5 from the library and bought 6 and 7. Like you I'm not a fan of the romance but they make me laugh and I'm finding them quick and addictive. Kind of reminds me of the Sookie Stackhouse books. Book 13 popped up on Netgalley UK as Read Now so needless to say I couldn't resist. I just need to figure out how to get books 8-12 as my library doesn't have them and they are not the cheapest. Why do I do this to myself?

On the plus side, it is a very handy site for finding free books for challenges ;)

It was a great read.

Lexi | 4306 comments I read a book of animal legends, Animal Lore and Legend The Wisdom and Wonder of Animals Revealed by Ruth Binney , for fun last night but it had incorrect facts in it, so I gave it 1 star. I feel slightly bad being the only review so far for it.

Vicki Willis | 498 comments Lexi - That is a bummer when that happens. Hopefully the author can go in and edit before it is too late.

Great stuff Vicki!

Yikes Lexi. That sounds like the publisher has some explaining to do. Especially as the book is being released very soon!

The Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride by Joe Siple

Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride review

This was really good. Worth a read.

Kristie | 3601 comments Hahaha... at least you don't already have too many on your bookshelf, so adding a couple isn't a bad thing. :) You are catching up to me though... or maybe I'm catching up to you??? lol

I almost requested The Town with No Roads by the same author as the book I just finished, but we'll see how many I get through this month first.

I just feel bad as the ones I have were mostly published a number of months ago

Kristie | 3601 comments Most of mine are really old. I need to keep giving them priority in the future. I had some that were over a year old. The time just gets away from you.

You make me feel glad I've only just joined so don't yet have too big a backlog! Having said that, I'm feeling like I need to get the 6 on my shelf read so I get approved for what I want next.

1st one done now. Lie Like A Rug which I enjoyed, just confused because it's on here as having been released on 2001

Sometimes they release old books right before releasing the next in the series, or a new book from the author

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Kristie | 3601 comments Got a pre-approval from that last review! Woot! :D Of course, I just said that I was not going to request his new book and now it's pre-approved. Ugh! haha I'm going to try to wait to see how I do this month first.

Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) | 711 comments 1. At the beginning of the month, post any/all of the following:
a: How many books on your NetGalley shelf: 7
b: What books are on your NG shelf
c: What your Netgalley feedback ratio is: 72%

2. During the month, read the NetGalley books that you can AND update your post with your reviews. (You can do this after each book or wait until the end of the month.)

3. At the end of the month, update your post and with:
a: What books you read
b: Link(s) to your review(s)**
c: Your updated shelf count
d: Your updated books to read
e: Your updated ratio

Kristie | 3601 comments I just got a widget for The Night Window. I wasn't sure if I was going to keep going with the series. The story is good, but I felt like if it went too much longer it might start dragging. Turns out this is the last book in the series! So added another to my pile. Seems that I keep going one up, one down this month.

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Not the best start to the year, we're only 10 days in and I've already increased my NetGalley books by 5.
Summoned to Thirteenth Grave (Charley Davidson, #13) by Darynda Jones Fallen Angel by Chris Brookmyre Twisted by Steve Cavanagh I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella Slayer (Slayer, #1) by Kiersten White
They are books I really want to read (and a couple by auto-buy authors) but I do need to get my shelf down. What I need to do is get writing those reviews I've been putting off. I've actually had a publisher emailing me more than once to ask if I'd read the book yet.
