I started yesterday, only got a couple of chapters in.

I do think Paolini improved as a writer from the first to the second book, but we'll see if that continues throughout the book or if it's just a good start.

I'm having a lot of fun with this book – it's like seeing an old friend. My danish copy is close to disintegrating (every third page is dog-eared and the spine only persist because of the amounts of tape I've used) because I read it so much – it's even been across the world with me! I brought it with me to Australia and read it maybe twice on that trip alone. Anyway, som thoughts:

Chapter "Roran": (view spoiler)[I love the introduction of more POV's. While I love Eragon and his story, I feel like the book benefits a lot from having more than one storyline. And it's nice to be back at Carvahall and see how they're doing + get a glimpse of the consequences of Eragon leaving. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter "Az Sweldn Rak Anhûin": (view spoiler)[I don't understand at all why the dwarves treat Saphira as an animal. It makes me sad – she's the best character in the series! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter "His Enemy's Face": (view spoiler)[Yuck – the Ra'zac are horror-material. Also while I like Roran, his and Katrina's love is a little... underdeveloped, I guess? It just strikes me now that they're both younger than me. When I read this book for the first time, I was maybe 8 and I didn't notice how young they both are. Eragon too for that matter. Chapter "The Dagshelgr Invocation": (view spoiler)[Aw, I feel so sad for Saphira. I can't imagine how alone she must feel.

Also, in this chapter I think Paolini shows a bit of his inexperience as a writer and world creater. The word "Dagshelgr" doesn't seem particularly Elvish to me – I'd think it was a Dwarf word if I just saw it. I guess I feel like the languages of Alagaësia don't seem very organic or naturally developed (and of course they aren't, but still). I can't help but compare them to Tolkien's languages and even though that's probably unfair, it's something I can't forget while reading this book. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter "Out of the Past": I remember reading this chapter for the first time and I almost couldn't contain myself from the excitement when I got to the end. (view spoiler)[ERAGON IS NOT ALONE! There's another Dragon Rider! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter "On the Crags of Tel'naeír" to chapter "Under the Menoa Tree": (view spoiler)[I like Oromis and Glaedr, although they're both very... stereotypically "Wise Elders". It's nice to follow along with Eragon's training and I feel like he's actually developing as a character, learning of and from his mistakes. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters "A Maze of Opposition" through "Elva": (view spoiler)[Nice to see the introduction of another POV. And Elva is supremely creepy. Also as a student spending a lot of my school hours in a chemistry lab, I loved how Orrin seems to just kinda mess around with dangerous stuff in his little lab – reminds me a bit of how I work in a lab haha xD (hide spoiler)]

Just finished Under a Darkling Sky:

(view spoiler)[It upsets me as well but I suppose it is because non of the dwarves have ever been Riders so don't know any better since non of their kind have ever been mentally linked with a dragon. They can only take the word of humans and elves which is another reason for the dwarves to resent them. (hide spoiler)]
