ABANDONED. Graphic Novel: Coming of age about boys playing soldiers

I read this more then 10 years ago. I remember only vague details not the overall plot although I suspect that it was really just a collection of vignettes. It was about a group of boys growing up in suburban america, in a period that could have been anywhere from the 60's to the 80's. They played soldiers and fought against Nazi's most of the time. It was kind of mature for me at the time. It was explicit and at times violent. There was one scene where the characters lay down under a bridge beneath the rail tracks as a train passed in order to prove their courage.
