Has anyone started yet?
I'm up to chapter 9 and there are a lot of different and interesting characters. They all have a bad, mysterious side.
I find it also good that (view spoiler)[Chaol and Dorian get their own chapters. It's interesting to read their story line. I'm not sure on what the plans of Aedion are, but I really don't trust him. I think Dorian plays a dangerous game with his father. He should learn to control his temper or fear, because that is what triggers his magic. (hide spoiler)]

As for chapter 9:
(view spoiler)[The Black Beak witches are gathering together with all their other witches at the Ferian gap. Could it be that they will be riding the creatures with black feathered wings? And also, if Dorian and Cealana had met each other when they were kids, they must have remembered each other? For now, I think that the king of Adarlan is preparing his army with help of Aedion and the witches, while I think that Maeve is not so bad at the moment. I'm wondering on how Aelin will get the throne. I feel sorry for her, though, she's completely lost in her grief. (hide spoiler)]

probably going to start today. been reading the authors other series since apparently there are crossovers between the two. from memory this book is where i found the pace picked up and the books set up more for later books

apparently, only up to book 2 of a court of thorn and roses but have seen other peoples comments which suggest the slight crossover. apparently kingdom of ash(view spoiler)[ has two of the main characters make a cameo appearance towards the end (hide spoiler)]. the other one is more a fan theory but there are several hints that (view spoiler)[ a major character is linked with the fae in throne of glass or the demons (hide spoiler)]. dont think they are that major and are more like easter eggs or subtle things then proper crossovers from what i can see.

6 chapters in and loving it. The introduction of multiple perspectives is great, they really add depth to the story.

Dorian needs to be careful, the king doesn't have much tolerance for him on a good day. He needs to stay under the radar. I'm sad for him and Choal, their friendship seems to have dissolved and neither of them have anyone else to confide in.


Aedion isn't particularly likable but he's absolutely a survivor. What the king has done to him is monstrous. I hope he rises up with Celeana to overthrow him.

Poor Celeana has really lost her way. I understand why she's so broken but she needs to get her shit together. I'm not sure she's safe with Rowan, he's dangerous.


And finally Manon! I wasn't expecting that. I love witches in stories, she's going to be great. (hide spoiler)]

The witches! I'm so excited to see more of them. They sound horrifically evil. I shudder to think what the king will do with them and the uses he'll put them to.

I think Celaena was only about 4 years old when she met Dorian, I doubt he'd recognise 19 year old Celaena as the toddler she'd been all those years ago. Though I do think that eventually he'll figure it out and realise who she is, if only because she looks so much like Aedion.

Maeve scares the life out of me. I don't know what her game is or why she wouldn't just answer Celaena's questions but the further away she is the better in my opinion.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Rowan train Celaena in magic. Hopefully she can use it to destroy the king. (hide spoiler)]

About the witches: (view spoiler)[I don't thinkt that they will be so easy to use by the king. They seem really powerful and I think that Manon and Titus will do great things. I love the wyverns! (hide spoiler)]

About Maeve: (view spoiler)[She's a dark character, but for some reason I think she has a hidden agenda, but not necesarily an evil one. (hide spoiler)]

About Cealana:(view spoiler)[ I don't find her a coward as in the previous books, but it seems that nothing could care for her. She's in some catatonic stage. She needs to try to step up and realise that she's the future queen, even if she doesn't want to be that. (hide spoiler)]

I'm starting chapter 11 and really enjoying learning more about Maeve and Rowan. They seem like really interesting characters and (view spoiler)[I love getting to know more about the fae realm.

And why is it that Celaena's mother kept her away from the elder fae? What does she have planned for her? O.o

I'm intrigued to see what Rowan's training will be. Maybe it will get our girl back in the right mindset after everything back at the glass castle. (hide spoiler)]

I think Rowan's training will be brutal but if it helps Celaena become strong I'm all for it.

started reading a few days ago but keep forgetting to post. up to about chapter 22 and have a few opinions.
i still do not like chaol, he does not really serve a purpose in this book and in the last book was slightly annoying towards the end. unless he gets character growth i do not see this changing anytime soon.
aedion (view spoiler)[ curious as to his motive behind a few things as well as whose side he is on in the grand scheme of things (hide spoiler)]. also he got mentioned briefly in the second book but from memory it was a single comment or a fairly short paragraph in dorian or chaols point of view about when they were children.
the witches are fun but not sure how the internal politics works (view spoiler)[ it seems that there are three heads with different traits but the blackbeak clan holds all the power. this may explain the yellow legs hatred for them if this is the case (hide spoiler)]. also side note the wyvern's are awesome and curious how that part will play out
rowan i am not too sure about. he seems to be full of contradictions so far and some of his behaviours seem off. find the demi fae kind of cool. lost as to (view spoiler)[ why caelina was being protected from maeve as a child. is it something to do with her blood line or magic possibly or some sort of prophecyalso what do you guys make of the black rings. we got some info on them in the last book but the information is still fairly vague. About the black rings: (view spoiler)[It seems that the king has some sort of special bond/pact with the other ones who wear them, f.e. Perrington, Aedion...) Maybe they are under thing's control or something. They are made of that dark lava stone (I thought) that contained parts of 1 of the 3 keys. Or the king uses the key to control the rings that they wear. It was said that the rings go beyond the normal magic, in reference to the 3 keys. (hide spoiler)]

I have the feeling that for some characters things aren't what they seemed as we read about them.

I certainly love to learn about the characters and their deep dark secrets as I continue on. They are definately not as they first appear XD

I just finished chapter 22 and boy what a ride those last few sections have been. So exciting :D (view spoiler)[I'm really loving the creepy crawlies in the fae realm. Like that creature who found Celaena in the maze O.O Even Rowan was creeped out by that one.

But let's talk about those skin walkers. What a terrifying foe. And you know Rowan wouldn't completely leave Celaena alone. But for her to find the strength to fight back. That was amazing! And the final send off was I'll admit a little cheesy with the dialogue, but still pretty badass.

And with that we learn more about the well of magic the faes have and how long it can last. Also, shifting is pretty fascinating in itself. Gotta love that lore! (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 30. I feel like this is a completely different series to books 1 and 2. It's a huge step up. I'm completely enthralled in the characters and their stories. The writing is also much better.

Regarding Celaena and Meave(view spoiler)[ So we were told that wielding fire was a rare ability, even among the fae. We also know that Meave likes to collect gifted demi fae and keep them in Doranelle. I think this is why Celaena's mother was so insistent on keeping her hidden. She knew that Celaena's gift was insanely strong and she didn't want Meave to take her. (hide spoiler)]

The Skin Walkers (view spoiler)[ They are horrible! I'm so glad Celaena killed them. Clearly there's lots of bad magical beasties here that just don't exist in Adarlan. (hide spoiler)]

The black rings. (view spoiler)[ I think the king is definitely using them to control Perrington and co. Though what he wants them for I don't know. I have a bad feeling about it. (hide spoiler)]

Chaol (view spoiler)[ I don't like him either. He's all broody and angry. I just don't find anything likeable about him. (hide spoiler)]

The witches. (view spoiler)[ I freaking love the witches. Manon is just excellent (though her grandmother terrifies me) and I LOVE Abraxxos. The witches storyline is fantastic. I really look forward to it. (hide spoiler)]

Dorian (view spoiler)[ I'm finding his storyline a bit boring now. I just don't care that much. That being said, I genuinely really like his healer friend, she's lovely and I hope he doesn't break her heart. (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 46 and loving it! (view spoiler)[ So Celaena's magic is awesome! She's getting super skilled with it which is awesome.

I love Celaena and Rowan's friendship. They both have so much pain, I think they'll be great allies. Their powers also compliment each other so nicely.

I really like Aedion. He's seen and done awful things and he's just doing his best to protect his people.

Manon is of course my new favourite. She's got guts for sure. Tricking those giant spiders was ballsy, as was defying her grandmother and sticking with Abraxxos. I really think they'll do great things together. (hide spoiler)]

up to about chapter 32 and having a lot of fun with this read. my favourite character is(view spoiler)[ abraxos, the flower smelling, ex bait beast wyvern, mainly because he is the opposite to what i expected from one of the dragons (hide spoiler)]. my least favourite character is chaol since (view spoiler)[ he doesn't really contribute anything to the plot as a narrator at this stage as well as he is kind of a boring and drab as a character (hide spoiler)]. quite enjoying the flashbacks or comments from (view spoiler)[ aedion and celeana about their past as well as their rather interesting bond (hide spoiler)]. i will agree with some of the others though most of the monsters in this book are quite creepy

Chaol is super boring and at this point i'd be happy for him to just go off to Annielle so we can be done with him. Book 6 is all about him so I'm dreading that one.

The Aedion and Celaena flashbacks are great, I can't wait for them to re-unite. It seems like they were the best of friends and both of them could do with a friend right now. (hide spoiler)]

from what i remember book six is actually pretty good plot wise and has some pretty interesting plot points. only real complaint is (view spoiler)[ it could have been done with any character since only about half of the plot ties in with chaol and what bits do are fairly slow (hide spoiler)]. also about aedion and celeana (view spoiler)[ their reunion is quite amusing to read in the book. (hide spoiler)]

The battle with the Valg princes was freaking amazing. Aelin is a power! Trawling through her memories was heartbreaking but I'm so glad we got to see more of her past. When she erupted in flame and consumed them I actually cheered, it was just excellent.


Meave is just awful. What she did to Rowan was despicable and I'm so glad he's free of her. It's a shame the rest of his Cadre can't be free.

The war games were fun, I really love all of Manon's character growth. She's decent, for a witch. I hope that doesn't get her killed.

The scene in the throne room was heartbreaking. Watching Dorian lose it as Sorcha was murdered was horrendous. Then the king collaring him, I was devastated. I'm so glad Chaol got out though, he needs to find Aelin immediately

Poor Aedion. I really wanted him to succeed and now he's going to die. God, it's just not fair!

Overall I loved this book. It was miles and miles better than the first two, in every way. I honestly felt like I was reading a different series. The writing was excellent, so many quotable moments that gave me chills. The character development was top notch and the story and world building were at another level. I'm so excited to read book 4! I think I'm going to reread the short stories first, to refresh myself.

I love how much you love this book Charlie <3 You are very right in it is vastly different from her previous works. There's much more development to the writing...and you just feel the emotion in the pages.

I just finished chapter 42 and was heartbroken for our poor assassin. (view spoiler)[To see her almost giving in to her hopelessness like that as her well of magic began to deplete. To know that Rowan didn't give up on her when she was at her darkest place...that's so touching <3 (hide spoiler)]

He really is a great guy when you get to know him. The thing is both of those two were dealing with so much on their own...sometimes it came across as hatred or bitterness. With that little bit of communication they were able to open up more and help one another. Being there for one another. Just goes to show you...you never know what people are going through when they act a certain way. ^-^

Just finished it this morning. Really enjoyed the bok but the ending was so sad. Rowan is probably my second or third favourite character followed by manon and aedion at this stage. Favourite part of the last portion of the book was the war games even it was only one shortish chapter, wish more had time had been on this part rather then the stuff happening with chaol All those cliffhangers at the end though over some of the storylines or characters actions

Yeah the ending really upset me too.
