I read a book in 2018 (adult contemporary fiction, not romance) that was published in 2017 or 2018 about a woman who leaves her husband and daughter at the beach while they're on vacation and becomes a waitress in a small town on the East Coast (US). **spoilers ahead** she was abused by a previous husband and has a rich man in New York who helped her kill her ex husband tracking her with a private investigator, who she falls in love with, and together they accidentally kill a woman who he was sleeping with. I think that she had a daughter with disabilities who she's secretly supporting, too?

I liked the author and it's driving me nuts that I can't think of the name of the book!
