message 1: by Amy (new)

Amy (celesi) After realizing it's August, and I'm barely past 50, I'm not so sure I have another 50 books read this year. Especially not if I keep having 1k epics surreptitiously added to my TBR shelf (DH is quite tricksy. He bought 7 books for him, and I want to read ALL of them).

Though it is nice having a spouse who understands a book brightens the day, and doesn't wilt like a rose. Unless it's a bad book, but you never know that right off, do you?

Amy (celesi) Okay. Okay. I actually hit 2 books last month. A little less upset.

It took me 30 DAYS to finish The Saint. While the author is growing on me, and I actually cared about the content this time--I have 50 books I want to read, not that my husband feels I should. I am done with omnibuses for September.

If October rolls around, and I'm not drowning in Shakespeare, maybe I'll pick up Eisenhorn like he keeps nagging me. Reading 30 pages a day just isn't enough for me.

September
55. The Saint by Dan Abnett
(always a sign of a good writer when you want to kill one of their characters. Well, almost always.)

message 4: by Amy (new)

Amy (celesi) 56. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
57. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong
58. Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott
59. Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs

Working on Traitor General & Dead Until Dark. Watching the first episode of Dead kind of ruined the suspense in the first chapter. I'm assuming once I don't know what comes next, it'll get better.

Traitor General...tempted me because it's a trade paperback, and it's so liberating to fly through the book. Maybe this'll be a new rule. No omnibuses, only single paperbacks. It hasn't slowed my reading down at all, which was my problem with it.

As for Abnett, the man's writing is really strong at this point. You can tell the author is stretching himself with each subsequent book. I will admit it is fun to watch the author grow through my reading.

message 5: by Tani (new)

Tani | 137 comments Argh, I'm so jealous of you for reading Hunting Ground. I've been stalking my local Borders for it for the past 3 weeks, but it has yet to spontaneously appear. Was it as much fun as Cry Wolf? If so, I may have to give in and order it. :)

message 6: by Amy (new)

Amy (celesi) Tani, it was pretty good. I just finished Dead Until Dark, too. I'm really liking these supernatural mystery series!

60. Traitor General by Dan Abnett
61. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
62. Choke by Chuck Palahniuk

My gosh, I want the next Sookie Stackhouse book NOW. Of course the library isn't within walking distance and my car's broken. Of course, right?

Next is...I really don't know. Maybe I'll pick up the 3 JR Ward books, just to read in a particular universe for a while. It is fun, falling in love with an author's world, isn't it?

message 7: by Amy (new)

Amy (celesi) Starting school really cuts in on the free reading time, doesn't it? I've read 4 Shakespeare plays, bits of Poe, Hawthorne & Melville, but no novel length works.
