Pip | 1361 comments I have delayed doing this because I have only just started Don Quixote and it will be a race to finish it and the Outlaws of the Marsh before year's end. However I have read 23 BOTM and only skipped Titus Groan because I had already read it and hated it. The Seasonal Reads were all good. I gave both the Count and the Kindly Ones 5 stars. The Kindly Ones wins because it was more thought-provoking. My favourite BOTM was Sula, the most creative was The Moor's Last Sigh, the funniest The Wonderful O, the saddest Goodmorning, Midnight. The most intellectually stimulating was Women in Love, the best plot The Light of Day, the best writing style To the Lighthouse, and the best discussion Sula. The worst plot was Pastoralia, the worst characterisation The Day of the Dolphin, the worst writing Pastoralia, the most boring The Crying of Lot 49, the least favourite Pastoralia, although Titus Groan would score less if I had read it in 2018. The one I would read again is Absolute Beginners. The book I never would have read is Ada. Although I never would have read The Ballad of Georg Henig if I had not been given a copy by someone in this group!

Number of seasonal reads completed in 2018: I read 3 of the Quarterly reads. I had previously read Don Quixote and while it has a lot to glean from it. I found it to drag and therefore was not tempted to reread it.

Favorite Seasonal Read: My favorite was The Count of Monte Christo. It was the most fun to read. The other two were "tough" reads
Least Favorite Seasonal Read: The Kindly Ones had too much body secretions, etc.

BOTM categories
Number of BOTM completed: I read 14 BOTM this year, 6 books I read previously. 3 I did not get to.
Favorite BOTM: Sula
Most Creative: The Crying of Lot 49
Funniest BOTM:
Saddest BOTM: Requiem for a Dream
Most intellectually stimulating/thought provoking: Crying of Lot 49
Best Plot:
Best Character Development:
Best writing/writing style: Sula.
Best Discussion thread: I enjoyed the discussion of Passing but I also enjoyed some of the others such as Sula.
Book you would have never read on your own: Passing. I didn't own this one and did purchase it this year. Something I was trying to avoid.

Worst plot:
Worst Characters/character development: Day of the Dolphin (stereotyped)
Worst Writing style:
Most Boring: Day of the Dolphin
Least favorite BOTM: Day of the Dolphin

Book you'd most want to read again: I probably should read Light of Day as I didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else. It was close to being my least favorite of the year. The one I should and will read again is Slaughterhouse-Five.

I will probably not get to this until 2019 so plenty of time to post your end of the year results.

We were a bit all over the place this past year so no real stand out winners.
Two people read all 4 of the quarterly reads; congratulations to Pip and Gail.
Favorite Quarterly read was The Count of Monte Cristo
Least favorite The Kindly Ones

The highest number of BOTM read was 23 by Pip, congrats Pip that is really great job.

The favorite of the BOTM was a bit spread out; these were the favorites
The Light of Day
Sula
But none were overwhelming winners.

The least favorite was
Women in Love which won that distinction hands down.

I will not tabulate the other items as the results were all over the place.

Happy reading in 2019.
