message 156: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, my name's Clare, I'm from Cork, Ireland and will be 36 in a few weeks. This is my first time joining a group but I'm hoping it'll give me a push to get out of my major slow down with reading.

I like to say I read a bit of everything but definitely in the last few years I've leaned more towards books that I know will give me a happy ending (not necessarily romance) I'm usually looking for escapism so I try to avoid too much melodrama or doom and gloom (though i do still have a soft spot for some of those dystopian stories!)

I'm hoping to join one of the challenges to help clear my bookshelves and will hopefully do some of the group reads as well, think I'm right in saying Ready Player One is up for January and that's been on my list for a while so fingers crossed

message 158: by Ally (new)

Ally Stonebraker | 1 comments Hi! I’m Ally from Indianapolis, IN! My goal for 2019 is to get lost in books instead of social media (joined this group and deleted my Facebook this past weekend). Ideally, I’d like to read at least 25 books: nonfiction, romance, and mystery are my go to’s.

message 159: by Blagica , Challenges (last edited Dec 31, 2018 08:33PM) (new)

Blagica | 12955 comments Ally welcome to the group and goodbye face book! If you are looking for a mystery in 2019 tryBelieve Me it is one of my stand outs. I look forward to seeing how your year shapes out.

message 161: by Vikki-Booksie (new)

Vikki-Booksie Hello all! Looking forward to another challenge this year, last year I managed 31/30 books and hoping to push it to 40 this year. I love historical fiction/non fiction, theology and reading books with my children which I count in my total too.

Would love some goodreads friends too to support each other and inspire with book ideas!

message 162: by Laura (new)

Laura Latini Hi all! My name is Laura and I’m from the U.S. (Pittsburgh, PA for those in the states). My goal for the year is to read 85 books! I read 82 to last year so I think I’ll be able to do it.

My taste in books are all over the map, I read or reread a few classics each year. Topping my list are probably historical fiction books and suspense/thrillers.

I’m excited to join you all! It looks like there are a lot of worthy challenges!

message 163: by Sam (new)

Sam (siburgess) | 25 comments Hello all,

I'm Sam, nearly at 30, nearly at Brexit. I leave those to do with as you will.

Technically I joined this group last year with the full intent of reading fewer books, with greater attention, and writing more about them on Goodreads and elsewhere. Then there was a death in the family, and reading stopped for awhile. When it started again, I was neither writing nor even reading with a careful eye, but thankfully, it remained a comfort, and the love of it was not lost.

Very much hoping that this year I'll read more - my target stands at forty books, with George R. R. Martin's 'Fire & Blood' being the first book I'll finish and Shirley Jackson's 'The Haunting of Hill House' the first I'll start in 2019 - and that I'll write more, particularly on these community pages.

Happy New Year, everyone!

message 165: by Renee (new)

Renee | 108 comments Hello (again!) everyone. This is a re-introduction; this group helped me really expand my reading in 2016 & 2017, and then life got in the way in 2018, so now i really want to get back to it. I've loved to read since forever, and hopefully the challenges can help me expand my reading universe even more!

Now, for these questions:
- Where are you from? - Born in the Netherlands, I now live East of Los Angeles, CA, and spend a lot of time on airplanes!

- What kinds of books do you like to read? - all of them, although i'll admit to a preference for scifi, world building and NOT a lot of navel gazing...

- How did you find our group? - i don't even remember, although this time around, i found it again!

- What's your reading goal? - 52 books this year (one per week!) but we'll see how this goes...

Best of luck to everyone with their reading challenges!

message 166: by Gemma (new)

Gemma Nanson | 1 comments Hi All, my name is Gemma and I am from Liverpool in the UK. Been on goodreads for awhile but never set myself a challenge before. Want to get back into reading, going to aim for two a month. Happy for any suggestions x

aub.downtherabbithole (aubdowntherabbithole) | 0 comments Happy 2019 and good luck with accomplishing your reading goals!

My name is Aubrey.
I've been using Goodreads for about a year and was excited to use the 2018 Reading Challenge. I just barely reached my goal by finishing my last book yesterday night. This year, I intend to read more, especially as a stress reliever and because I got a new job at Barnes and Noble (which helps with my new book obsession).

I am boldly accepting a 2019 Reading Challenge of 50 books and hope to use this group to encourage me and to help me expand my genre of reading.

message 168: by Alina (new)

Alina (alin01) hello everyone and happy new year! ❤

my name is alina and I'm from germany. i've only just recently made an account on goodreads so I'm still trying to figure things out!
one of my new years resolutions is to start reading more again – i barely read anything last year so i set a realistic goal of 20 books for now :p i enjoy reading fantasy, contemporary and YA novels but i definitely also want to try out different genres

good luck with your reading challenges <3

message 169: by Sydney (new)

Sydney (sydinreallife) | 3 comments Happy New Year, everyone!
My name is Sydney (Syd for short), and I'm really excited to be joining this group this year! I live in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. I like to read all kinds of books, but I spent a lot of time in the crime/thriller/mystery genre last year. I found this group by a random search of reading challenges, and I am so encouraged by the warm welcome I've received so far! This year, I would like to read 100 books. I am going to try to follow some prompts in order to spice up the variety of my reading. I am also endeavoring to re-read all 7 Harry Potter novels, finish the Game of Thrones series (as it stands), and try a new genre this year.

So excited to get to know you all! Happy reading!

message 170: by Ronda (new)

Ronda (aunt_nonna) | 107 comments Hi (again). I am an old member but I have come back after a two year break. I thought that an introduction might be in order.

My name is Ronda. I am married to a truck driver, mom of two boys, one is married and has made me a grandmother (there is NOTHING better in this world), and my oldest passed away in 2001. I work in IT, and am addicted to crafting.
I am also the mom of 5 canine furbabies.

- Where are you from? South Central Kentucky
- What kinds of books do you like to read? Non Fiction, Chick-Lit, Self-Help, Young Adult, Southern Fiction, Historical, and SO many more
- How did you find our group? I don't remember because I have been a member for a long time.
- What's your reading goal? 100 books, I have some serious catching up to do.

message 171: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 4 comments Hello! Stephanie from the Sunshine state. I have been a member of Goodreads for awhile, but first time group member. I enjoy reading fiction, non-fiction, autobiographies, YA. I recently challenged myself to read more minority authors. What brought me to this group is the PopSugar Reading Challenge. More reading less screen time for me!

message 172: by Justin ••• (new)

Justin ••• (kjustin) Justin here. Came up well short of my reading goal last year after a horrid Spring and abysmal Summer... let's hope I can avoid a similar fate. I'm aiming for 150 books in 2019. I'm also aiming for a lot more new releases: last year I read maybe 4-5, and this year I'm hoping for something closer to 20-25. I'm also planning on taking a deep dive into exploring an author, Kurt Vonnegut, which (when including secondary literature) will probably account for another 25-30 books. And who knows, maybe this'll be the year I finally read the Harry Potter series!

message 194: by Shiruji (last edited Jan 02, 2019 06:47AM) (new)

Shiruji | 25 comments Hello~
I'm a 28 years old, female, Sagittarius, from Norway. Looking forward to join you all with discussions etc. in this group :)

I found this challenge on Emily Fox's page. I'm a fan of her youtube videos, you see ^^.

I want to read at least 20 books this year, and I want to read more classical books (in general and classics by Norwegians authors).

I love the genres of adventure, history fiction/facts, fantasy & magic, and a happy ending (chick literature haha).

Some of my favorite books/authors are Jack London, Jane Austen, the Sherlock Holmes series, the Harry Potter series, Diana Gabaldon, Captain Frederick Marryat, Lisa See, the Norwegians poet Herman Wildenvey, Kate Morton and Lisa Jewell etc.

message 195: by Mikayla (new)

Mikayla (mikaylakim) | 14 comments Hey all, I'm Mikayla from TX.

I'm a committed hard-copy reader (the only exception being an unfortunate summer vacation in 2016 where I only brought one book and unavoidably ended up reading half of the Game of Thrones series on a relative's Kindle). I suppose I have started some controversy and would love to chat about the strengths/weaknesses of books vs ebooks. I've wavered a bit in my commitment these last couple years, mostly because I travel at least once a month. I'd love to hear some feedback from people who have made the switch and love it!

I used to read 50 books in a year easily, but now that I'm out of school it's tougher. Last year my goal was 1 book/month, and having hit that, I'm going for a 50% increase to 18 books in 2019 . Joining Goodreads for some accountability, because who doesn't like to track their goals?

Genres I like are contemporary fiction (a new one for me), fantasy, biographies, and classics (especially British classics-my emphasis in college). In all genres, I'm picky. Recent reads I've loved are Uprooted by Naomi Novik, The Way We Weren't by Jill Talbot, and All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

message 196: by Ketty (new)

Ketty (kettlekinsreads) I joined the group last year, but I thought I would introduce myself for new people and all that. Hi, I'm Ketty! I read a wide range of stuff, but not really because it is all fiction. I read to get away from life not have it jammed into my brain ;). My goal this year is to read 35, but I am hoping for 40+, I just am trying to be realistic considering I have Song of Ice and Fire on my TBR for the year.

This year I want to be more involved with my blog and I am even starting a bookish bullet journal, trying to keep myself out of the hole that is depression by using cheap therapy.
