This is the nominations thread for February's Book of the Month & Group Buddy Read.

We don't yet know the author of the month or the challenge options for February, but feel free to nominate any book that follows the guidelines and that has come out AT LEAST three months ago (no later than November 2018).

PLEASE REVIEW THESE GUIDELINES:
-Please do not nominate a book we've already read as a group in the last three years. You will be asked for a different nomination if you do. Find our shelves here:
2018 - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
2017 - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
2016 - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

-Remember that a book must be out for 3 months or more to be eligible for nominations and voting

-Any author is up for nomination, as long as the book you nominate has not been a group read during 2016-2018, however, try not to nominate an author that we've read this year already.

-If it is a book in a series that is not the first book, make sure you know that it can be read as a standalone and doesn't require the previous books being read to understand and enjoy.

-Please note that there may be more reasons that a book is not a good fit for nominations or group members as a whole, whether it be availability, cost, accessibility, etc. The moderators reserve the right to make these decisions. Thank you for your understanding! :)

Nominations will be open until December 15.

1. The Carpenter's Daughter by Jennifer Rodewald
2. Ghost Heart by Lisa Harris
3. Borders of the Heart by Chris Fabry
4. Beyond Justice by Cara C. Putman
5. Tending Roses by Lisa Wingate
6. Before I Saw You by Amy K. Sorrells

Barron, if you'll click on the picture, you will be redirected to the book's Goodreads page, which includes a book blurb.

Hi, Linda - just one nomination per member :) I'll use your first nomination, unless you tell me otherwise by the time I make the poll tomorrow. Actually, could you verify that the first title is Christian Fiction? I'm not familiar with the publisher or the author. I will look into to make sure, just thought I'd ask you in case you were familiar with this author already. Thanks!

Edited to add - I believe the second title is Christian fiction, so it should be fine if you want to switch to it. :)

Linda, I went with this one because a GR friends verified that while the other book is clean, it has no Christian themes, etc. Thanks!

I know it is too late for this month, but for future reference, the publisher is a local christian publisher.

Sorry about that, Linda. I'll look into for sure. A trusted GR friend let me know that while clean, the book doesn't necessarily have Christian themes. Not being familiar with the author, I went with her take. Thanks for understanding! :)

message 21: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn V | 224 comments I have also, in the past, been not chosen for a book I've nominated or two. What is the best way to choose a goodreads christian author? I now, look at the reviews to see if it was a good choice for others; but, that doesn't also work.

message 22: by Kate (new)

Kate (liahonagirl) | 367 comments Carolyn, if you pay attention to the book details on books we read in the group, you'll start to recognise a lot of the Christian publishers. That's a good place to start for figuring out if a book will meet the criterion for the group reads. Also, Staci has started posting about the book awards, and that's another great resource for finding especially new and relatively unknown as yet authors for Christian fiction. HTH! :)

message 23: by Karin (last edited Dec 29, 2018 10:08AM) (new)

Karin | 181 comments Wow, this month I was torn between two authors I like quite a bit--so happy there are authors I enjoy who aren't ROMANCE even if there might be some in there.

LOL--I have many reading friends who love romance, but the writing style is just not for me--I like that sort of thing in a movie :)

I am sooo disappointed that I can't get Ghost Heart through my library networks!!! I can get the other one, though. But I think I voted for Lisa Harris (there was another person I wanted to vote for, too, so am not sure).

Karin, Ghost Heart is loanable through Amazon (so readable on Kindle or Kindle app). If you'd like me to loan it to you sometime, just send me a private message. I'm planning on reading it sometime during February, but I can easily work around whichever two-week period is best for you. (Loanables are usually for a non-renewable 14-day period, so please be sure you're ready to read the book when you ask me for it, as I cannot re-loan it. [I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Kindle loanables process. Sorry if I over-explained! Habit of the job, since I'm a tutor. Haha!])

message 36: by Marion (new)

Marion | 124 comments I also have Ghost Heart on my kindle if anyone needs it loaned to them. Just PM me.

Tending Roses is currently $1.99 for Kindle.

message 38: by Marie (new)

Marie | 17 comments I see that the March read is Ghost Heart but I cant seem to find the Feb. read. Also, what does Buddy Read mean?

message 39: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 1872 comments Mod
Ghost Heart and Tending Roses are our February books. The comment that they are for March must be a typo.

A buddy read is where we read and discuss a book. It is less formal than a book of the month, though we are pretty relaxed there too.

message 40: by Beth, Head Librarian (new)

Beth | 2202 comments Mod
Definitely a typo, whoops! Can I blame the chaos of a new semester? 😆😊

message 41: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 1872 comments Mod
Oh, definitely! We know you're busy, Beth. Don't worry about a little typo. :)
