Chinese American sci fi novel in Gold Rush SF

I saw this in a bookstore once. I think it was a time travel novel and featured Chinese American characters who time travelled back to Gold Rush era San Francisco. It had a red paperback cover but it was a large paperback with a non-glossy cover.

It isn't The Girl with Ghost Eyes or China Mountain Zhang.
