A little vexed that titles and series names do not always concur on..."The series has been a solid one so far. I am liking no 7, only 20% to go. Can't believe it is not a BBC series yet.
Andrea wrote: "Oddly I just picked up Eoin Colfer's 6th book ..."I'll be interested to hear how you like it.
Finished Ship of Magic and loved it. 4.5/5 stars (4/5 on GR). Next starting The Mad Ship. Kivrin wrote: "Finished The Fall of Dragons. Very satisfying end to the Traitor Son Cycle. No one does battles better than Miles Cameron. I was on the edge of my seat through the entire book. Too ..."
Traitor Son Cycle was sooooo good! Feel like it's a very underappreciated series. And Fall of Dragons was such an epic ending. (view spoiler)
Finished reading Dragongirl...it was...weird. Too many inexplicable telepathic/sexual connections being made here. But as someone said, I can kind of view it as Pern "fanfic" and brush off the parts that don't make sense in the grand scheme of core Pern. It also ends on a kind of cliffhanger, obviously to be continued in the next book. But first, got a group read to get ready for, started on Saturn Run by John Sandford. If I decide to break rule to use only dragon based books for my BINGO challenge this might solve my "near-future" dilemma.

I finished:
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
Rating: 3 stars

I've just finished the third installment of Malazan Book of the Fallen. On to House of ChainsHouse of Chains now :)
I've gotten quite a bit of reading done this month. I finished: Rift Breaker (essentially a sci-fi/action flick but in written form), magical realism novella, Passing Strange, academic intrigue (and final book in a loose series) The Fall of the Kings, group read The Hand of Oberon, Nigerian sci-fi Rosewater, and children's book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH (recommended to me about a year ago from a what are you reading in thread, I finally got around to it!).For the last few days, I've got Traitor's Blade, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Retribution Falls - but they might carry over!
Three days ago I started to read The Stone Sky, third volume of the Broken Earth series. It will surely carry over into early December.
Finished up : Arcanum Unbounded - Sanderson’s “short” story collections this Cosmere. The two set in new worlds were particularly good imo. Also Agents of Dreamland- Lovecraftian spore-y stuff.
And lovely oil painting novel (vs graphic novel) Above the Timberline.
Now to dig into Ka:Dar Oakley...!
Finished Saturn Run, my comments go into the discussion thread but I enjoyed it.Starting the next contemporary read, The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin a month early, I had put the book on reserve and it's already got people in line behind me so I've got to read it while I have it :)
Future Imperfect: A Collection of Science Fiction Stories by John Moralee made my lunch times quite enjoyable for the past couple of weeks. I gave it a 4 star review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Rating: 3 stars
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
And I started reading:
The Courts of Chaos by Roger Zelazny
Bryan wrote: "I'm halfway into Version Control."Finished it, loved it. Palmer's take on SF is like James Smythe's, very low-key, character-driven, and beautifully written. Plus, this book is funny. poignant, and an acute observation of today's world (and great references - yeah, it's been 16 years and I'm still not over that cancellation, sue me :)
4.5*
I would not have called that the scariest book I'd read would not be a horror fiction, but there you go.
With Liberty and Justice for Some: How the Law is Used to Destroy Equality and Protect the Powerful
Also now almost finished with The Obelisk Gate. I wouldn't argue with Hugo voters against this choice.
Ellen wrote: "I'm starting the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. I'm really into high fantasy and although this book is giving off a lot of Dishonored vibes for me (a definite positive, as I love the game series), it hasn't yet grabbed my attention in the way that a lot of other books have in their first 100 pages. Sticking with it though, as I can sense it's gonna get good soon. :) "The blade itself is really just a novel-length introduction; it sets up the world and the characters but there's no pay-off at the end of the book. However, the next books (and the overall trilogy) are really great so if you're disappointed with the first book don't let that turn you off the series, you'll be glad you stuck with it ;)
The Way of KingsNearly finished first volume. Really enjoying it. Sanderson’s other work was good, but this is his magnum opus and lives up to the reviews. Asking for rest of series for Christmas. If I can hold out that long...
Finished the Fifth Season, that one actually required some brainpower to follow, both the plot and the world building. I'll definitely be reading the next one. Keeping more comments for when the discussion opens. But, tomorrow is the start of our classic read so I can't get back to my dragons just yet, need to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis...though it's debatable whether I even need to re-read that one. After all I've read it several times before, plus seen the TV mini-series, plus watched the movies...I kinda know this book pretty well :) But I look forward to it being the start of reading the rest, I think I've only read The Horse and His Boy once, way back in elementary school, all I remember is that there is a horse...and a boy...
Finished The Mad Ship by Robin Hobb this morning. 3.75/5 stars (3/5 on GR) I really liked the book generally but the lengthy romantic musings and love triangles were not my thing at all and took up too much of the book for my tastes. Still really enjoying the series but the romance aspect decreased my enjoyment quite a bit. Reminds of the reasons I didn't like Well of Ascension as much as the rest of Mistborn, except the epic ending of WoA swung me more to 4 stars than Mad Ship has.Have now started the third Liveship Traders book Ship of Destiny
