Our main branch library is close to my work office --- they announced last year they are building a coffeeshop in there. I can't wait to go. They have beautiful windows over the lake with swans. Unfortunately the coffeeshop is still in progress. Figured would be nice to stop there on the way home and read a bit out by the lake. What a great idea. The Winter Haven Library nearby has a nice coffeeshop as well but that's in another town.

Do you participate in other challenge groups besides than this one? About 6 other groups and about 50 or so challenges. Some individual, some team.Do you usually pre-plan the books you are going to read in any way? I keep a notebook by my desk of books I need to read for the month. If they have to be done by a specific date I had the date next to it.
Do you read more than one book at a time? I usually have a physical/kindle book and an audiobook going at the same time. It takes me 25 minutes to get to work so I always have an audio book going in the car.
How are you doing on your Goodreads yearly challenge? I had it at 200, but was falling behind by about 12 books so I lowered it to 150 which made me 12 books over the schedule, so I changed it to 175 and I plan to keep it there. I'm only 1 book behind, but I'll read something small and catch up.
What's your favorite reading spot? In my bed in the middle of the night with the only light on is my booklight,
Do you like any favorite reading snacks or drinks? Not really unless I am reading in the daytime and sometimes I like to have popcorn and a soda,
Sorry I'm late on these -- I was away with friends this weekend, and people get cranky when you check Goodreads rather than talking to them. :) Do you participate in other challenge groups besides than this one?
I'm in 6 or 7 that I participate in regularly, a few others that have once or twice yearly challenges I really enjoy.
Do you usually pre-plan the books you are going to read in any way? I try to on yearlong challenges, but most of the ones I'm in right now I need to make fit certain tasks, so planning doesn't really work. I am completely unable to pick a book to read independently anymore at this point. ;)
Do you read more than one book at a time? I usually have a physical book at home, a kindle book for work (lunchtime reading) and an audio book for commuting and running going at any one time.
How are you doing on your Goodreads yearly challenge?
I'm 11 books ahead right now. I had initially planned it lower as I was going to try to knock some big books out this year, but then challenges...
What's your favorite reading spot?
Really anywhere I have a seat, but mostly my bed or on my deck if its not too hot.
Do you like any favorite reading snacks or drinks? Not really. I might have a diet coke or water nearby, but its not usually part of my reading plan.

Do you participate in other challenge groups besides than this one?I've done the Uno Challenge that I really like, Tower Teams, also some individual ones, but the groups are a lot of fun as long as it's low pressure,
Do you usually pre-plan the books you are going to read in any way?
Yes - I go to 3(!) RL book clubs so am dependent on those schedules, otherwise I also have to keep up on won books and getting books off my horrendous TBR. So if people are into planning their reads around this challenge, believe me, I won't mind.
Do you read more than one book at a time?
Only 1 print and 1 audio at a time.
How are you doing on your Goodreads yearly challenge?
I am 10 ahead of schedule! (out of 72) Audio has helped a lot in getting my reads read.
What's your favorite reading spot?
#1 is bed. I also like to read on my porch & at the park with my kids. I listen to audio while watching their sports events (helps keep me from getting too anxious, lol). I like the beach or backyard too. I also like to read out in public and yes, also have all the drinks (coffee, etc.) I want.
Do you like any favorite reading snacks or drinks?
Not really - but I have been known to relax with an alcoholic drink & a book.....
Fun getting to know you all!
Erin ☕ *Proud Book Hoarder* wrote: "Oooh fun, I have a soft spot for 50's themes, diners and anything retro."Me too, Erin. I frequented the restaurant for many years and used to go with my mom and dad and sisters when they all lived her. After my Mom died in 2008 both of my sisters moved to Florida :(
Anyway Chubby's moved from one block to my east to one block to my north so still very convenient. They have a larger place now and it's so nice and family run. I took my granddaughter in for dinner one night and she got an interview right then and there and she got hired and has been there for a little over a year now. It makes it nice and gives me a good excuse to eat there. LOL

The main problem is that it shares a parking lot with the library (we call it the library park) and it is now pretty much home to a lot of homeless people. It was turned into a nice park with two bathrooms, but the city began locking to bathroom doors because of the homeless population so it doesn't make it a very good park to take little ones to in case they have to go potty. Of course, there's the library right there but you have to get a key now to use their bathroom. I'm at the library ALL the time so naturally they know me by name and know when they see my face if I have books waiting to pick up etc. But there's no really good spot like you have with swans and water and all that. In fact, the library park used to have water fountains for the kids to play in but that got shut down too. :)

I'm sorry to hear about your mother but glad the spot is still accessible for you. I live in Florida too, which area did your sisters move to?

At this point I'm wondering if the coffee shop will ever be done. Was supposed to be late Sept/Early Oct :/
No kidding, especially when it's something I've been looking forward to lolAt least Amazon finally released a new Paperwhite update this month. It's already Pre-ordered, now just have to wait for the shipping to start November 7 ...... *sags*

Thank you. :)
Both of my sisters live in Gulf Breeze and my brother lives in Nararre.
My librarian just told me that we passed a measure that means we (my library) will be able to get more new books quicker! Fingers crossed!!! She said they have a bunch of new ones coming in. I'm so excited!!
That's great news, Vicki!I just tried to highlight my hair but it kind of turned into a mini disaster, so I'm now having to recover the whole thing. I didn't mean to turn out blonde, but that's probably the safest best for now until I can darker it a bit in a few weeks again.
*facepalms*
That looks so nice! The library I used to go to shut down their coffee and tea shop before I started going there, and the current library I go to doesnt have one.
I'm pretty excited. The coffee shop that will be working it is popular and in another location, so I guess they are branching out. I will try to check it out this week and if so will take some pictures in person.
I love coffee shops in libraries. The old library I used to work at had a nice coffee shop. The headquarters of the county system where I live has a spot to buy drinks and premade food, but I have to check if it has coffee.
I tried it and really enjoyed it. The Pumpkin Pie frappe would only work for those who really like pumkin and pie spice. The outdoor seating area was raised and we even had a breeze.I bought a bag of mysteries for 1.50 (11) sealed in a bag as a surprise grab from the Friends of Library. Still have to look through all the books and see what I got.
What should have been a four minute trip actually turned into 20 min because my GPS was acting up :/
I will post pictures soon, it was a nice visit and I'll definitely be visiting again.
Just a note: This challenge is starting the 27th but I will technically be out of town! I am returning Sunday the 28th so will be checking in then. Any books that are planned or finished can be added to our planning spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Almost time to start!! I'm so excited! On a much less pleasant note. This morning I found out someone had stolen my debit card number and managed to rack up $860 worth of charges. Ive been super upset all day by this. Reading has helped take my mind off it today. Hope everyone's day has been better than mine!

Wow, that's awful and I hate when that happens. Hopefully the bank works with you - they almost always do. It's scary how easy that seems to happen with cards. I've been very lucky for the most part but have had weird things happen at times too. So sorry to hear it.
Reminder: We start 5 pm EST Saturday. Books cannot be started before this time. Once finished, please be sure to put on your created bookshelf for the challenge. You can either post in the planning sheet when completed (or planning), the books read thread, or both. It's finally almost here, and I'm still excited =)

The first Book of the Month for November By Date is Crazy Rich Asians. The reading can be started on November 4th. So far they have not announced who will be asking questions for each team. Not all teams will be chosen depending how many slots they need for hosting questions. Any member is welcome to answer Daily Questions.
The points from the Book of the Month will be used the week that the book is finished. It looks like the book of the month does not start on the first week the challenge begins, so it would probably be better to save it for the second, third, fourth or fifth week of the month so that it fits a spell it out and earns the bonus points. The 4th falls on a Sunday.
I think I am going to read The Witch Elm
for the first challenge.
I put it on the planning spreadsheet but I wasn't sure how to put the link to the book in there!

Yes it is awful! I would have caught it sooner but my banks webpage and app were both down so I couldn't get on and check it for a few days. They are working with me so far just have to wait for Visa to do their investigation into it.
Now I'm going to start reading since I'm finally home!
Stacey wrote: "Are we officially started??!"Yes, we started 4 hours and 49 minutes ago. There's a countdown clock posted in message #4.
You can edit the planning worksheet. We also have a books read thread. You can use one or the other or both.
Hello everyone, I have returned! It was a nice trip to St. Augustine with my mother, we had a lot of relaxing, beautiful weather, and gorgeous scenery. Also, I got to read! I finished one book for this challenge and started another.I see many filled out the planning spreadsheet - thank you! We can do this, I know we'll do great :)
Michelle wrote: "In message 4 there are 3 links for spreadsheets. Which one are we using for completed reads."You use the Planning spreadsheet.
The official team one is locked for just mods -- and they take the information from there to be on the All Teams Spreadsheet.

No problem on the book link. I can find it as long as its on your shelf when done.
I should finish the bonus word for the 15 point completion bonus (only works if submitted with the first word) tonight (maybe!) --- we have enough books completed to already submit a completed word to our spreadsheet already once this is done and we get a C finished. While reading the book I will see if there is a C character since we have R's finished, and that will complete a word when done.Excellent start all!

Reminder to all --- please put your book on your Shelf you created for this challenge when you finish your book. I can't add it to the official spreadsheet until this is done.Thank you!
Erin, I added my book with a bonus for "crow in text" but I will have another book finished tonight that also has "crow in text" and it's 648 pages instead of 364, if that matters.
Vicki wrote: "Erin, I added my book with a bonus for "crow in text" but I will have another book finished tonight that also has "crow in text" and it's 648 pages instead of 364, if that matters."The bonus points stay the same no matter which book is used for "crow in text", so both work for that!
648 pages gets more points in general for the book page count bonus ;) We're more than happy to use both of them.
Thanks so much, Vicki, you're a doll!
I'm such a dork but, on my vacation I visit a small soap shop and bought some Bath Bombs just for some "book baths." Found one called "werewolf" and "shark attack". For being a frequent customer, the shopowner gave me one bath bomb free. I also picked up some Pumpkin Cheesecake soap for the fall season.Plan to use the werewolf bath bomb and the soap tonight while deep conditioning hair (haircolor disasters galore this week) during reading my Crows book. Ah, bliss.

Hope your little one feels better soon. Seems like there's stuff that's starting to go around. Thanks for already finishing two books, I should be done with my second before bed. Back to work for me tomorrow :/
