(view spoiler)[WHAAAAAAAT?! I really hope you're wrong on that one! That would be HORRIBLE. My thought is maybe interdimensional travel to wherever it is they came from? Like maybe there's some war or something and they're using them for cannon fodder or bolstering the population from... whatever the place is that the "Gods" came from. Maybe they're continuing with whatever it was that they were doing when they grabbed Korako.

I think they'd mentioned (in the flashbacks with Korako and Nova) that the "powers were getting weaker" or something like that... so maybe, when they realised that the powers of "non gods" were getting weaker consistently that they needed to do something DRASTIC in order to "recruit" more with powerful abilities?

And then the whole thing with "wraith" going into that orb and the "nothing" that moved that was in the orb... maybe the "nothing" was Korako's essence or spirit or something, and she alone (of the Gods) survived the Carnage - at least in part? Otherwise, Wraith couldn't have possibly stayed, right? I think maybe she was astral projecting at the time of the carnage and as a result wasn't "in" her body in order to be killed (or at least not able to be killed COMPLETELY) and something of her stayed behind because with Skathis's death she was unable to open the orb and thus go into... whatever it was that was in the orb. Hence why "Wraith" was hanging around the city for so long. Because when Lazlo "opened" everything inside the Citadell it seems that Wraith went straight for the orb so... maybe? There's definitely more to that orb than meets the eye!

And just... they said no-one left the citadel... but there were ships! With cages! They must be going somewhere! Maybe they travel through the orb or something and it's a portal?

But definitely a large portion... the hardest thing for them would probably be that it's unlikely their babies would have been blue due to being separated from the Mesarthium. And thus, they most likely would have been born looking "normal" - so for all they knew they were killing children that might be godspawn but may never have powers because they weren't the blue of those that terrified them (or the other babies that were born in the Citadel itself).

It's possible though that they aborted? Maybe? Depends on how good the medical care was as to whether that could have worked or not I guess.

But either way... that's HARD to read ._. (hide spoiler)]

3. the way minya was 'defeated' was... interesting. Laini Taylor is very anti-violence/war and it can be a little bit of a let down tbh

4. skathis just... bred children as weapons. for money? doesn't seem like the real story to me. there has to be more there than just greed, right????

5. Nova. I wish she was introduced in Strange the dreamer. she was SO important to the outcome of this book, but... it all felt SO rushed

it went to tricking Minya into the sleep. to exploring the citadel with Lazlo's new powers... TO A NEW BIG BAD WHO IS BIGGER AND BADDER THAN MINYA IN SO MANY WAYS SO LETS GET THIS OVER WITH.

It makes me wonder, what was the point of Strange the dreamer? It was all world building and building up the relationship of Sarai and Lazlo. And Muse was all LEARNING. EVERYTHING. AS. FAST. AS. POSSIBLE.

(view spoiler)[Very surprised by how this all went down in the end o.O The whole thing with Nova didn’t go at all how I was expecting and I really did think that somehow they would be able to bring back Kora and somehow heal Nova through that. It did make sense to have Sarai “defeat” Nova in her dreams, though I didn’t expect her to have Kora’s help to do so! Wish it wasn’t the end of Nova though (and who knows, maybe it’s not?) because I think there’s just so much more that can be explored with her character.

I kinda love how open-ended the book is though and I just love the idea of them travelling through the worlds and maybe meeting up with Karou and all of them. And there’s still those powerful inter dimensional beings to defeat and all ;D

I really hope the author goes back and explores this ‘multiverse’ that she’s created because I really love it and there’s just so much more that can be done here 💕💕 (hide spoiler)]

Wasn’t at all the ending I was expected but I actually rather love it? 😅

I'm glad that Lazlo and Sarai are together and that they are at least thinking about scouring the worlds to find someone that can get her a body. Yay. I'm also happy that Eril-Fane and Azareen got a happier ending. But......I am a little shocked that Nova jumped to her presumed death. I think having a pirate on their side could have benefited everyone in the future, and surely she could have become part of their family over time. (hide spoiler)]

I feel as though her fury and desire for revenge is because she had trauma and has a sort of want to prove herself. she keeps on repeating that she couldn’t carry more children so she feels an immense amount of guilt and has this emotional burden placed onto her. maybe also she is jealous of sarai and lazlo? she never had a proper childhood and never got the chance to grow up. she’s literally trapped inside a child’s body. even though she’s SO MEAN i feel a sense of sympathy for her. ALSO THE STORYLINE BETWEEN THE SISTERS I DONT KNOW WHY IM FORGETTING THEIR NAMES IS SO INTRESTING I LOVE THIS!! (hide spoiler)]

I'm glad they were able to find a way to stop her without giving up Sarai or the people of Weep. The story of the two girls is pretty interesting and I am excited to see where it goes. Honestly I am not really surprised by the fact that they don't like them but by the fact that Minya took complete control of them and fooled everybody, It seamed a little strange that any humans would like the godspawn as everybody hated them. I'm really enjoying the book and hope that Lazzlo is able to convince some of the humans to interact with some of the godspawn while Minya is asleep so that they can understand that they don't mean each other harm. Also, the god wearing the collar could be the same Kora from the village and is maybe somehow under the control of the gods? Maybe the rest of the gods were being forced too? (hide spoiler)]

It seems like they were training an army so many there is so war going on which they needed new soldiers for? I really hope all of the gods aren't bad and it was just this one commander who is bad. Since Kora was alive until pretty recently maybe Nova is too and the characters might be able to find her. Whatever happens I just want all of the characters to be happy. (hide spoiler)]

I started this today and am up to chapter 27. Enjoying it more than I expected to (view spoiler)[ I appreciate that the other godspawn are standing up to Minya and that they drugged her to make her stop. But I feel for Minya too as she has massive PTSD and is stuck reliving the horrors in her dreams
I want to know more about how the ghost controlling works and how much of the Ellens is really them versus Minya's projecting.

I'm most interested in the sisters in the small town who are being tested for gifts though. I am so curious what happened to all the children that has been taken from the nursery. Why move them all? Are they building a surprise army? Or is this actually a prequel from before?

Also I really want to visit that library that has been discovered in Weep. So many precious books! (hide spoiler)]

I should finish this up tomorrow up to chapter 52 (view spoiler)[ So the storylines finally connected. Nova found out her sister is dead and is now taking the ship away with Laslo still on board. It is neat that the bird projection stayed alive even after Kora's death.
Oh and Minya is on the ground with no metal to touch and turning grey quite quickly with the strain on her gift. She let all but 3 of her ghosts go but how long can she hold on to them? I still want to know more about what makes the Ellens different beyond them being the first ones she took and how she needed them to help care for everyone. (hide spoiler)]

Finished and enjoyed it much more than I expected. (view spoiler)[ I liked how Kora used Sarai to enter Nova's dream and tell her everything she had wanted to. It was a beautiful and sad moment for the sisters. I wasn't surprised that Nova jumped off to meet the Sea, she had nothing left to live for and after centuries was ready for her end.
I love that the Grandmother came with them on their journey to find the other lost children and hopes to find her own child somewhere among the worlds.
Was a solid end to the series. Although there could definitely be more written in the world in the future. (hide spoiler)]

I finished Strange the dreamer (loved it!) a couple weeks ago and had to take a break before diving into this one. Hope it doesn't disappoint

Hi, sorry for disappearing. I only made it to chapter 5.

I don't know what's wrong with me. i think i might be in a reading slump. but it has nothing to do with this book. I think i should have binged it immediately after finishing STD because now i am struggling to get back into it 🙈

I've also been pretty busy and only finished Part 1 (Chapter 15).

I do have to say the first book had a more engaging start and I'm struggling more with this because I remember I simply couldn't stop reading the first few chapters of Strange the Dreamer. But totally take your time and if you're not feeling it at all, no worries!

(view spoiler)[The whole of Part 1 is just rehashing the end of the first book - Sarai is dead, Minya controls her, there's a stalemate, etc and it's all kind of depressing. Also Sarai and Lazlo already so much in love when they only met a few days ago is a thing I'm struggling with. I also don't see how she's going to come back to life - I still can't believe the author killed her. (hide spoiler)]
