Historical romance novel, the hero is half Indian (not Native American) and has mystical powers (I think some healing and ability to sense the future?), he is a sailor and he has a pet panther. The heroine is English.

I feel like at some point in the book, they sail on his ship to his family’s home on an island or something. I think there might be something fishy going on with the heroine’s family or guardian. Sorry this is so vague... any thoughts are appreciated :)
