Arielle (fairyelle42) | 3 comments My co-worker is trying to track down a book from her childhood but she does not remember a lot about it. I'm a librarian and told her I'd help. This is all we have to go on:
*She read it in the late '70/early '80s
*Historical Fiction...maybe set during a war
*A girl was the main character
*She was either in a wheelchair or used a cane...she possibly had a condition like polio
*A nativity set was involved/mentioned
*When my co-worker hears "Anna Karenina" it reminds her of this book..so she thinks the girl has a similar name (it's not the Anastasia Krupnik series--I thought of that just based on the name similarities)

TIA for any ideas!

Pamela Love | 1206 comments This is a stretch, since it's actually about a real person, but some of the other details fit. Karen, by Marie Killilea. Part of the book took place during World War II. Karen had cerebral palsy and earned to walk with crutches. In one chapter, the family sings "Happy Birthday" to Jesus in a Nativity scene. The girl's name is Karen Killilea, which has kind of the "feel" of Anna Karenina. Karen
