September 2018 Scavenger Hunt
Begins: 01 Sept 18 / Ends: 30 Sept 18

.

Your challenge is to find the following words/phrases in the TEXT of the books you are reading this month.

You are NOT restricted to one book / one word; you may find as many of the words/phrases in a single book as you like. If you find all the words in one book you are really lucky!

This month's scavenger list are words that were found in
Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea
Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea
NOTE - you may NOT use this book for the scavenger hunt!

BASIC word list
bowling
cement
embarrassed
flowerpot
google
immigration
Jeep
lesson
Mexican
postcard
quest
saint
sweaty
video
washcloth

BONUS / OPTIONAL words
bandidos
Chiclets
German shepherd
Sudoku
ubiquitous

===========================================

Unless a variation is specified above, words must match exactly, with the following exceptions: I will accept a plural/singular version, or differences in spelling between British and American English (e.g. honor or honour). But those are the ONLY deviations allowed. So if you are looking for "vivid" - I will NOT allow "vividly."

All books used must be a minimum of 100 pages long - Page length determined by HARDCOVER 1st edition. If there is no Hardcover, then the most popular paperback governs page #.

You may read in any format - text, audio or e-book. If using audio or e-book I suggest using Amazon.com's "look inside" feature to get a page number for you quote.

You MUST finish the book before you can claim credit for finding the word/phrase.

Donna | 437 comments Challenge completed! I can't believe that --- purely by chance --- the first book I read in September (The Wife, by Meg Wolitzer) contained both Chiclets and ubiquitous! I was actually hoping to read "The Wife" by Alafair Burke, but it was not available at that time, and this one was.

I read "The Power of the Dog" by Don Winslow specifically because it included the word "bandidos", but I enjoyed it thoroughly. (Warning: It is violent, graphic, and bloody!) A second book by Winslow, The Cartel, has been on my To Be Read list for quite a while.

Oooooh SO close ... but sorry, no. Words must match exactly (except for plural/singular and British vs American English spellings)

Koren (koren56) | 546 comments This month was frustrating. I found concrete several times but not cement. I found face cloth a couple of times but not wash cloth. Oh well, on to the next challenge. On the bright side, I found chaise lounge from the challenge a couple of months ago. Now to find what month it was.

"Chaise Longue" (or Chaise Lounge) was in June 2018
(I keep the lists for about 2 years ... so I don't repeat a word in that time frame .... if ever you need to know what month an older word was on the list, just ask.)

Donna | 437 comments Koren, I thought the September words were a challenge, too! October may be easier.

Thanks BC. I did find it. Didnt think it was that far back. Isnt it funny how we come across a word from a while ago and remember it was a word we needed at one time! I was excited to find 'washcloth' in the book I just finished.
