Joni | 625 comments Chains is set back in 1776 during the Revolutionary War. Told from the view point of a young slave girl, Isabel.

Isabel tells of her plight to secure the freedom that was promised to her and her sister after the death of her first owner. She tells of the evilness of her new owner, Mrs. Lockton; her new friend Curzon and his bravery; the kindness of Lady Seymour (Mr. Lockton's aunt), her horrible ordeal of being branded when fighting for her sister; and her heroism through out.

I read this book aloud with my 12 year old daughter for her summer reading assignment. Since it was set back in 1776 some of the language and words were hard for her to understand.....heck, I even had to look up a few words (thank you Google.) My daughter "wrote" a beautiful 2 page newspaper for her report on Chains. It was a wonderful choice.

We both look forward to reading the other two books in this trilogy.
