San Diego a few years back initiated a new program called: "One Book, One San Diego". It's purpose:

"One Book, One San Diego is a community reading program. The purpose of the program is to bring together our community and encourage residents to join together in the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book."

Other cities have similar programs. The 2018 book has been selected: "March: Book One", by Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell.

Link below for more info on the selection, as well as some prior selections.

I should note that the only one from the last 5 years that I've read was the 2015 selection The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, which I absolutely loved and gave 5 stars to. So I will be checking out some of these others.

Jeanne | 35 comments I read March: book 1. It is a graphic novel. After I read it I remember thinking it should be in all our schools
