The Slightly Odd World of Phil Whiteland
New 'Undertakers' story in which Archibald finds the government's strictures exhausting, and dangerous!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Poor Archibald. Made to annoy his employer. Without the sense God gave chickens. Thanks for the story. Very timely.

Yes, it turned out to be more topical than I expected :-)
I wouldn't pity Archibald too much, I suspect he has a sound grounding in common sense.
He wants things to make sense - to him, where he is.Which is not unreasonable, if you hope to acquire his cooperation on something.
Some of us are too clever for our own good.

You may well be right, Alicia :-)
Jim wrote: "love it"I'm chuffed! Didn't know if this one would work as it's not so explicitly humorous :-)
Mind you, it did get a Cherry Award within minutes of it being posted!!
Jim wrote: "That's good"Isn't it! Just need to persuade a few more readers to take a chance on the book, now :-)

Jim wrote: "nice one :-)"Part 2 later today. The beauty of this one is that it utilises my former career (HR not undertaking) :-)

The sequel to the Murgatroyds' funeral arrangements in 'Never Say Die!'https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Jim wrote: "Nice one :-)"Thanks Jim! The original plan had been to mention the Murgatroyds' funeral arrangements in passing, then it somehow became a whole other story! I'm not sure how that happened :-)
This may be more than flesh and blood can stand! ;-)Me talking about the new audio version of Steady Past Your Granny's

I had a novella come out of a throw away line :-)

I'm not sure if I've got the staying power for a novella! I tend to peak too soon ;-)
I suspect that one thing that might work for you is to have the separate stories but as people read them they slowly see how there is an overriding story emerging. If you look at the last three Tallis stories, I've called them a love story. But the first three don't appear to be linked at all, it's when the last two come out that things will fall into place.
It's not subtle or sophisticated and it's not even tricky. But I can imagine you could work something nice with your undertakers.
I can see, in the background, Electra and 'Me Mam' wrestling for control of Archibald with poor old Josiah caught in the middle a bit and trying to do his best for the lad
In the foreground you just have a string of stories but with growing hints as to what is going on :-)
