The Slightly Odd World of Phil Whiteland
They say Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned but Archibald and Josiah seem immune in this week's episode of the 'Dead Reckoning' series:https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
In Merkin-under-Heathwood, crime is afoot, which is doing nothing to help the foot (or temper) of D.I. Wood. A day earlier than usual, here is this week's Josiah and Archibald tale from the 'Dead Reckoning' series:https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 14 finds Josiah in a state of nervous excitement and Samantha with a sense of deep foreboding. Wonder how it will all end?https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
In Episode 15, Monday morning sees the start of a brand new week at Oakshott and Underwood but Josiah is conspicuous by his absence and Samantha holds the key!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Josiah is missing, Samantha and Archibald are at a loss! Nothing for it but to throw themselves into the long arms of the constabulary :-)https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 17, in which Samantha takes control, and loses it, at the same time!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 18 of the multi-award winning 'Dead Reckoning' series in which Archibald digs in his heels, Mr. Strine offers solidarity (up to a point) and Samantha tries her womanly wiles!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 19 and Archibald is en-route to Evanley Hall, much against his better judgement, and doesn't know what to expect? Certainly not a nice sit down and a cup of tea!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Jim wrote: "I no longer take sugar in my tea or coffee"Very commendable! I didn't for years but recently I've backslid with coffee!
Episode 20 and things have taken a turn for the worst for our protagonists!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Samantha tries to get the police to take an interest, without much success, and Archibald becomes increasingly concerned about his companion! Episode 21 of the Dead Reckoning series.https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
BTW I'm more than a bit disgusted with X (Twitter as was) so I'm experimenting by not promoting this week's Undertakers story on there but on Blue Sky instead. We'll see if that makes any difference (although not to Elon Must, I shouldn't think!) If you want to say hello on Blue Sky, you can find me at @philwhiteland.bsky.social
This week's episode and Samantha makes some progress whilst Josiah and Archibald find their feet...wet!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
P.S. I've deactivated my Twitter/X account and feel better for it :-)
I must admit I never post to twitter but there are people I follow on Twitter (mainly about Ukraine) and I never bother reading the comments below their threads :-)
Jim wrote: "I must admit I never post to twitter but there are people I follow on Twitter (mainly about Ukraine) and I never bother reading the comments below their threads :-)"Every time you post a story to ABCTales, you're automatically encouraged to post links to it on Facebook and Twitter (sic), which I've always done. That's the only time I have any interaction with Twitter. Now it will be Blue Sky, which is identical as far as I can see, but without the ranting! :-)
I haven't looked at Blue Sky but I don't feel I need more social media to interact with At the moment farcebuck and goodreads are about enough for the amount of time I'm willing to give them :-)
I am on the same two, Jim: GR and FB.FB has all my online support groups - medical and book-related.
GR is where I keep a small presence in this group -and occasionally check out other groups.
It's more than I need.
I did try a bunch of others - didn't find community.
I had a semi-decent group of other authors on Wattpad - but one day, with no warning or way to download anything - they close the forums.
Can that happen again? Probably. Hope not. I need to fit SOMEWHERE.
I've never really managed to fit in with an online 'community'. 1. Because I don't have the time or inclination to devote a large part of my day to it and 2. Because it turns sour and/or back-biting or the rules get in the way or they just turn it off (as Alicia experienced). I suppose the nearest I got was Authonomy, which I enjoyed but which did consume an inordinate amount of time. Then Amazon Forums, which is what led me here!Basically, I use social media as a form of free (but not very effective) advertising. On which note, I've finally managed to get into the position of 'you can't give them away'! - I offered 2 paperback copies of my novel 'Bring Out Your Dead' to anyone who would give them a fair review and...not a sausage :-(
I have seen communities form back on usenet but the trolls seemed to inevitably destroy them given time. With regard to forums and suchlike, I assume transience :-(
Indeed even with my blogs I write the post in word, then keep it stored on my computer, copying and pasting it onto the blog. I'm not risking it all just disappearing because somebody has a policy change
Episode 23 - Samantha has finally managed to persuade the Detectives to take an interest in the case, but will they be too late?https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 24 - Josiah and Archibald are in deep trouble, and it's getting deeper!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 25 of the Dead Reckoning series is here, at last, in which Josiah and Archibald are trying to keep their heads above water, whilst the Detectives hopes are sinking fast!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 26 of Dead Reckoning and Josiah and Archibald are in real trouble! Luckily, help is on the way in the form of Samantha and D.S. Stone, but will they be in time?https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 27 in which Jeannie and D.S. Stone excel themselves but Josiah and Archibald are not out of the woods yet. The water, maybe, but not the woods!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 28 in which Josiah and Archibald are hospitalised and the Detectives are left to view the aftermath!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 29 in which the participants in the water-filled cellar drama of Evanley Hall are still dealing with the trauma, except D.I. Wood who is dreaming of sun, sand and...Sergeants?https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 30 and Merkin-under-Heathwood is returning to some sort of normality. D.S. Stone is musing about the mystery man in the reservoir, D.I. Wood is pining for the Caribbean, Archibald longs for an unhealthy lunch and Josiah may well come to regret his!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 31 in which Josiah makes an unwelcome discovery and Samantha and Archibald set off to find the truth!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 32, and the police might have come up empty-handed at the chip shop (apart from D.I. Wood) but D.S. Stone still has something up his sleeve!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 33 in which answers are sought and D.S. Stone might just have found one!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Despite everything that's been happening in our world this week, life in Josiah and Archibald's world continues on its less-than-smooth path. This week, questions are asked but not necessarily answered and Archibald gets the chance to put his feet up.https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
It's Friday, so it's more than high time for Episode 35 in the 'Dead Reckoning' series in which we find Samantha struggling with Mr. Strine's note-taking, Josiah and Archibald back in the saddle again and D.S. Stone praying for a breakthrough, or just for something to happen, which is coincidental because...https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Just the thing for a chilly, damp Friday - Josiah and Archibald in hot water! There's something nasty in the garage and D.I. Wood and the emergency services are there to get to the bottom of it:https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Episode 37 in which the Detectives embark on a course of action (in the teeth of opposition from D.S. Stone) and Josiah and Archibald find themselves in need of legal representation - of sorts!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
Alicia wrote: "Glad it's still going - maybe some day I'll be able to catch up. Seem to be going backward."Hope you get the chance at some point, Alicia :-)
This week's instalment, somewhat delayed! In which Josiah and Archibald escape from the long arm of the law, but for how long?https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
It's nearly Christmas and it isn't an elf on the shelf, it's Archibald!https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
About this time of year, I tend to deviate a little from whatever Josiah and Archibald saga is ongoing, and knock up a few festive stories. This is the first for 2024, there will probably be others :-)https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
The last Friday before Christmas is often a time of office parties, and Oakshott & Underwood are no exception to that rule. Emva Cream anyone?https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...
This week's a tale of lost and found.
