Linda C (libladynylindac) | 1162 comments The Siege of Sarajevo lasted from April 1992 to February 1996 and this story takes place in May and June of 1993. Following the shelling of people waiting in line for bread resulting in the death of 22 of them, a cellist who lived in an apartment nearby determined to play Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor for 22 days at the time and site of the attack. The author admits to shrinking and adjusting the timeline of events to support his story.

Three other characters provide additional perspectives on the siege. Arrow is a female sniper assigned to protect the cellist for the 22 days. Kenan is the married father of 3 who must cross the city every 4 days to get water. Dragan is a baker who can get a free meal at his bakery if he can cross the city to do so. Both Kenan and Dragan live in fear. Arrow has worked out a personal justification for what she does. All three are forced to face their conscience and their fear during the time of the story.

Little actual politics is discussed; people are the besiegers, defenders and civilians. Very powerful.
