Matt Arcidi | 3 comments Centre page is an illustration of a WW2 US Army column with tanks, jeeps and infantry soldiers. Turn the page and the illustration is a Roman Army column organised the same, where the tanks are replaced by elephants, jeeps by chariots and soldiers by Roman legionaries. Lost picture book of my childhood.

I don't remember it Matt, but I would definitely like to have a copy too.

What were the illustrations--pen and ink, full colour drawings, photographs for the modern Army stuff? If pen and ink or full colour, were they realistic, cartoonish, or what?

Matt Arcidi | 3 comments Hi Ann,
both US and Roman were cartoon style, black outline coloured in. Directed towards a primary school child, like an illustrated kids history book.
I can't remember other parts of the book. This is what sticks in the mind.
cheers Matt

Tab (tabbrown) | 5055 comments Did you read this in the 70s or later?
Was this a nonfiction book?
Anything about the cover?
Part of a series?

Matt Arcidi | 3 comments Read it in the 70's when in primary school, probably 1976 -78.
You're banking on the memory of a 9 year old at that time, so cover? Nonfiction I guess.
I use to draw a lot and used this book as a reference for drawing.
I seem to remember it illustrated other historical periods in time, eg Egyptians and the pyramids.
