How did you all like The Scarlet Pimpernel? Did it simplify too much? Was it the perfect combination of adventure and romance? Are you thinking of reading the sequels?

I love this book. And I forget how much I love it. I understand that it gives a very basic interpretation for a complex situation (the French Revolution) but that is set dressing. The book is an adventure novel. And that's what I love about it.

Tell us what you thought of the book!

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 479 comments I enjoyed the book, and thought it was interesting. The heroine left a bit to be desired. The adventure was fun, though.
Lauren Willig has written a series of mysteries, based loosely on the plot of The Scarlet Pimpernel. The first is called The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, a group of English gentleman take over for the Pimpernel now that he has been unmasked and forced into retirement. Fun series, but it probably affected my opinion of the original, having read most of her series first.
