theDuke | 5792 comments Remaining R10 noms:

193. Golden Oldies - 1960 to 1990 - nominated by Jemma
194. The Unexplained - songs about U.F.O.s, strange happenings, disappearances etc - nominated by TheFoe
195. "Turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so" - music created by Japanese born artists (there can be westerners or whoever in the mix, but the main man (or woman) must be from Japan - nominated by Tim
196. Got the horn... songs featuring saxophone, trumpet, cornet or flugelhorn solos ("song" does not mean there have to be words: instrumentals are welcome) - nominated by Gordon

On hold - to be added to R11 list (when I've opened it!) - "Good-dreads Inna Babylon - Reggae" - Tech

Still could do with a few more noms for R10, before I think about opening R11, so please by all means, get your R10 noms in soon, thanks.

To add your new noms for R10, here's the nominations link:

____________________________________________________
Evening all,

First up, final call to those that haven't yet done so, for R10 theme nominations, please do so by next Sunday, as i'll be closing R10 then & opening Round 11, thank you. We've had 11 noms for R10 so far (not including Tech's latest), I had a check, & those that haven't placed a theme for R11 yet, therefor are still eligible, are: KJS, SJ, Derek, Suzy, Johnny, SussexWelsh, Rob & Serial (if he's still around?), to name a few, just in case those named had had thought they'd already had nom'd a theme for R10! Just thought i'd mention it! ;-)

And remember, you can re-nominate a previous nom'd theme from yesteryear, just check the previously nom'd themes list, on page 1 of Themes Nomination thread, the link is above the dotted line! :)

Right then, moving on, it's Tech's turn, with; -

'Blow Yer Own Trumpety - the genre of music that the act is playing must be reflected in the title of the song/piece or in the name of the act.'

I think I understand what is asked of for this one, but just for clarification purposes (mainly for me, but anybody else as well!) - The type of music that the band/artist plays, is mentioned in the song title or song lyrics; have I got that right?

Anyway, noms and links as per usual, thank you.

I see the weather has returned to it's usual Bank Holiday fare..i'e' grey and damp and miserable! Ah well..enjoy the extended break if ya got it off. Me? I'm waiting for the biggest event of the year to happen...King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, are finally repressing their first four albums soon! I will finally get to complete the set. The 1st 4 albums were only ever available in small pressing numbers (500 copies)...and thus, are ridiculously expensive to buy.....but not any more, as PO's are imminent..hurrah! :) Also, O.R.B.'s third album is about to drop anytime soon too (also from Flightless label), for those of you that like a bit of Aussie stoner/psyche music....I've heard the single so far, and I like what I hear..the album looks to be a gud' un.

Right enough babbling..carry on peeps...ciao!

Val H. | 15778 comments My son and daughter-in-law arrive in the UK on Sept 7 for 5 weeks (delayed honeymoon). I reckon you can cue 5 weeks of rain, mist, sleet, hail and maybe even snow. But, fingers crossed the weather demons will all be asleep.

theDuke | 5792 comments Here's hoping we get that Indian summer then! Traditionally, well as far as the last 10 years are concerned, August has nearly always disappointed in weather terms, but late summer early autumn, tends to fare better, at least it does over in my corner of Wales.

May they have a lovely honeymoon Val.

At least they won't have any probs with our roads...Australia are one of the few countries in the world, that drives on the correct side of the road! ;-)

I once read about an traffic incident (no such thing as a road accident) of an American tourist, who drove the wrong way around a roundabout..cos his English passenger told him to turn right at the junction...so he did! Caused several surprised drivers to run out of his way and into each other! lol! Nobody was hurt thank goodness....but i'd would've like to have heard the response from the yank driver...maybe it was like this? - "You said turn right pal, so I turned right..so why was everybody else going the wrong bloody way then?!!"

I gather they don't have roundabouts in yank land! :)

Brass Neck | 3897 comments Gordon wrote: "Is the David Bowie track really in the gospel genre?"

Derrick Harriott's rocksteady/reggae, no hint of psychedelia but Tech let it stand. Seems any name of a musical genre goes but if anyone's struggling (from memory and all belters IMO);
Judy Is A Punk Rocker - Ramones
Sweet Soul Music - Arthur Conley
Head Like a Rock - Ian MacNabb
Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock Music - Funkadelic
Old Time Rock & Roll - Bob Seger
Do The Reggae - Toots & The Maytals
Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo - Johnny Winter or Rick Derringer
Rocksteady - Aretha Franklin
Boogie No More - Molly Hatchet
Your Sister Can't Twist But She Can Rock & Roll - Elton John
Blues Power - Albert King
The Blues Had A Baby And They Called It Rock 'N' Roll - Muddy Waters
Rock & Roll - Led Zeppelin
Rockin' In The Free World - Neil Young
Reggae In Your Jeggae - Dandy Livingstone
Soul Serenade - many artists inc Aretha, Derek Trucks, King Curtis, etc
Ain't That Country - Cadillac Three
Here Comes The Hotstepper - Ini Kamoze
Old Country Waltz - Neil Young
The Band Played Waltzing Matilda - many artists inc Pogues
Funky Nassau - Beginning Of The End
Swamp Music - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Disco Boy - Frank Zappa
Death Disco - PIL
Jug Band Music - The Lovin' Spoonful

And then there's these;
Yes Sir I Can Boogie - Baccara
Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars
Country Roads - Olivia Newton John
Heavy Metal Thunder - Saxon
Classical Gas - Mason Williams

message 29: by Fishy_Jim (new)

Fishy_Jim | 972 comments We Got The Funk - Parliament Funkadelic
Ran Tan Waltz - Kate Bush
Brighton Rock - Queen

If there's one thing Yes Sir, I Can Boogie WASN'T, it was boogie (I can think of several colourful words for it)!

message 30: by Brass Neck (last edited Aug 28, 2018 04:43AM) (new)

Brass Neck | 3897 comments It's in there because Derrick Harriott's isn't any shade of psychedelic but Tech accepted it.

The of course there's;
Get The Funk Out - Extreme (funk-metal anyone? OK, Collette, anyone else?)
Avoid The Funk - Defunkt (they didn't; it is)
Punky Reggae Party - Bob Marley (certainly not the former)

Love me some EII, reggae drums and bass married with English folk instrumentation. Once travelled all the way to Cambridge to see them do a support slot for The Men They Couldn't Hang - wasn't there for the headliners.
