1. Watchman’s Hut: This served as a control port for people entering and exiting the city creating a very effective means of security. 2. The Funerary Stone: This strangely carved rock lies next to the Watchman's Hut. Researchers have puzzled over its use but several have suggested it could have been a sacrificial alter. ✜ Read a book tagged MYSTERY on its GR homepage.
3. Temple of the Sun: It is believed this structure with the unusual turret was used as an astronomical observatory. The placement of the two windows are closely aligned to the Summer and Winter solstice. ✜ Read a book that takes place completely in the season of summer or completely in winter.
4. Royal Tomb: At the base of this building is a cave-like structure believed to be a mausoleum for the royal family. ✜ Read a book with a character that is a member of royalty.
5. The Temple of Three Windows: Located in the area called the Sacred Plaza, the Three Windows frame the three facing mountains perfectly. ✜ Read a series book #3.
6. The Principal Temple: Named for its large size, it striking feature is an embedded kite-shaped stone thought to represent the Southern-Cross star formation. ✜ Read a book with an cross shaped object on the cover.
7. House of Ornaments: Located at the highest point of the city, they believed this was used to store ornaments because of the niches in the walls. 8. Inti Watana: One of the strangest features at MP, archaeologists think this carved stone served as a sundial or calendar. 9. The Fountains: Fed from natural spring waters through impressive stone channels, MP's fountains fill over 16 baths which were thought to be used for ritual purification. ✜ Read a book with a word relating to water in the title (ocean, river, fountain, etc.).

Question: For the "Read the book on your TBR with the 2nd highest rating" task. What do you do if you have several books with a 5.0 rating. Do I read the second book on the list rated 5.0 or the first below 5.0? And does the 100+ pages rule apply here as well?
Answer: You can either read the 2nd 5.0 book on the list or the first book below 5.0 that is over 100 pages long. Either would work but the 100 page limit does apply.
Question: For the task "Read a half step series book (i.e 1.5). Does this task include prequels = #0.5 or other between the numbers books (sometimes they are .4 or .6 or .25 ...) as well?
Answer: Yes, prequels would count. The other odd numbered one would count also IF they are over 100 pages long.
Question: For task "Read a book with double LL in the title or author’s name. - Do they have to be consecutive or would any title/name with two Ls work?"
Answer: The double LL needs to be consecutive (together).
Question: If we complete all the tasks in a color then does the color reset.
Answer: Yes, if you use all the questions in a color it does "reset" and you start over with your ten tasks to choose from and proceed as you did before.
Question: For tasks that require a book set in a location (eg a capital city), does the entire book have to take place there?
Answer: At least 50% of the book should take place in the needed location.

✔1. Watchman’s Hut: This served as a control port for people entering and exiting the city creating a very effective means of security. 6. The Principal Temple: Named for its large size, it striking feature is an embedded kite-shaped stone thought to represent the Southern-Cross star formation. ✜ Read a book with an cross shaped object on the cover.
7. House of Ornaments: Located at the highest point of the city, they believed this was used to store ornaments because of the niches in the walls. 8. Inti Watana: One of the strangest features at MP, archaeologists think this carved stone served as a sundial or calendar. ✓ 10. You must bring your passport with you to MP. It has its own passport stamp which is a nice reminder of your Peruvian adventure. ✜ Read a book that takes place in a location that would require you to use your passport.
LIGHT GREEN: GETTING THERE
✓ 1. Many visitors choose to hike to MP. With different trails that vary in length and experience, there is one that fits every hiking preference. ✜ Read a book that fits your current mood or genre preference.
✓ 2. The Classic Inca Trail is the most popular route. It follows the path of the original Inca trail and has a 4-day and 2-day option. ✜ Read a series book #4 or #2.
3. You will need a permit for the Classic Inca Trail. They are limited but there are other hiking options if you are unable to secure one. ✜ Read a book where the first letter of every word in the title can be found in CLASSIC INCA TRAIL (Two Word Minimum).
✓ 4. The Salkantay Trek does not need a permit. Named after the iconic Mount Salkantay it has been called “One of the World’s Best Hikes”. ✜ Go to GR Lists and type the word BEST in the search feature. Read a book off one of the lists that has the word BEST in it.
5. The Lares Trek is an easier option and the ultimate cultural experience. It takes you through traditional Andean communities that have changed little in the last 500 years, giving you a wonderful look back in time. ✜ Read a book tagged CULTURAL on its GR homepage (It can have a country listed before the word CULTURAL).
6. If you don't plan to hike, you can take the train to Aguas Calientes, which deposits you at the foot of the mountain heading up to MP. ✜ Read a book with a mountain on the cover.
✓ 7. There are two rail companies that operate trains to MP: PeruRail and Inca Rail. Both give you options ranging from the budget friendly to impressive luxury cars. ✜ Read a book with a title that begins with a letter in RAIL.
✓ 8. At 11,150 feet, Cusco requires acclimation to avoid acute mountain sickness, or AMS. Even though MP is just under 8,000 feet it’s a good idea to give yourself a day in the area to acclimate. ✜ Read a book with a MC with a first name that starts with A, M or S.
✓ 9. From Aguas Calientes there are two ways to get to the actual site - by foot or by bus. Both have their obstacles: a two hour stair-heavy trip up the hill or a two hour wait in line to board a bus. ✜ Read a book with a 2 in the total page count.
✓ 10. New rules and regulations for visiting MP went into effect on July 1, 2017 making it harder to get tickets. So be sure to purchase your tickets online well in advance to avoid disappointment. ✜ Read a book that was published AFTER July 1, 2017.

1. Watchman’s Hut: This served as a control port for people entering and exiting the city creating a very effective means of security. The impressive view from the hut should not be missed! ✜ Read a “not to be missed” book from this GR list: Most Popular in 2018. Tell what number is was on the list. => #1 The Women in the Window, #2 The Great Alone, #140 The Wife, #153 The Escape Artist (Meltzer), #171 Masterpiece (F. Rivers)
✓ 2. The Funerary Stone: This strangely carved rock lies next to the Watchman's Hut. Researchers have puzzled over its use but several have suggested it could have been a sacrificial alter. ✜ Read a book tagged MYSTERY on its GR homepage.
✓ 3. Temple of the Sun: It is believed this structure with the unusual turret was used as an astronomical observatory. The placement of the two windows are closely aligned to the Summer and Winter solstice. ✜ Read a book that takes place completely in the season of summer or completely in winter.
4. Royal Tomb: At the base of this building is a cave-like structure believed to be a mausoleum for the royal family. ✜ Read a book with a character that is a member of royalty. => The Royal Spy, Most of the Bluegrass books, Royally Screwed, The Wild Heir, A Connecticut Yankee..., The Royal Hacker, The Prince and the Player, Part-Time Princess, A Little Princess, The Emperor's Edge; Carol Moncado, Summer Lee
✓ 5. The Temple of Three Windows: Located in the area called the Sacred Plaza, the Three Windows frame the three facing mountains perfectly. ✜ Read a series book #3.

7. House of Ornaments: Located at the highest point of the city, they believed this was used to store ornaments because of the niches in the walls. 8. Inti Watana: One of the strangest features at MP, archaeologists think this carved stone served as a sundial or calendar. 9. Our seasonal challenge is going to be a little different and twice as long this time around. Hope you have fun climbing Machu Picchu!
We will learn about this exciting national treasure as we make our way around the below GAMEBOARD. The tasks are divided into different informative sections which are determined by square color. Many thanks to our member Barb who graciously let me borrow this format from one of her challenges in CCC.

✜ To Start: Go to random.org, making sure it is listed as the ONE DIE option and then roll. Then move to the appropriate space on the GAMEBOARD counting the START HERE space as #1.
✜ The space color you land on will determine your task category. You may choose any of the tasks in the color category but once you use a task it cannot be used again. The next time you land on the same color you must choose a different task.
✜ Once you complete the task for your first roll, roll again and make your way through the gameboard, completing tasks based on the colors you land on.
✜ The Red Squares are EXCEPTIONS. When you land on a red square you must follow the directions listed for each different Red Square type.
