Angela Dunlop | 71 comments Netflix OZ has a 1st month free then it’s about $10/$11 a month after that. Such a cheap option and with the wonderful SBS On Demand and ABC iview we get a great range of international tv/movies.

Icewineanne | 297 comments We receive a wide selection of other channels. Netflix would add $149/yr to our bill. We don’t watch enough shows to justify the additional cost.

Couldn’t wait for Netflix to arrive in Europe and Netherlands and subscribed first week here. It costs approximately the price of having a coffee out once a month but provides 24/7 streaming of thousands of international choices in every genre. A blessing during summertime reruns seasons and for people like myself who prefer absolutely no commercials and to watch when I want not via schedule restrictions. Some are like HBO Starz etc with episode release weekly but most provide the entire season or seasons at once so streaming is a pleasure of as many episodes as you want to view at a time. Pure perfection for 10.99€/month best value possible. Amazon Prime streaming is good too but limited so I’m preferring Netflix because I can watch my subscription at home on my big tv, while traveling on my iPhone or iPad... No contest. Beats commercial tv and most that was on commercial tv, comes to Netflix soon enough. Netflix Originals are excellent International productions. Fabulous movies and series... from countries I would not otherwise get to view from. Example Mexico!

I agree, like so many things we came to Netflix through our teenage children. We pay something like £8/months, but the account can be shared with the kids. Fantastic. I have not yet explored all the options because here in England we also have "Walter presents" where Channel 4 shows foreign box sets or films (mainly European). Don't have enough time to watch and read it all however.

Gisela, I so agree with you. We have the options of several users / viewers too on our Netflix. VERY good value / for money. We only have your BBC 1,2,3,4 and First here but get a lot of good international content on Holland, Belgium and German TV too. Often your Walter presents and Channel 4 get things just as it is going on to our Netflix or HBO On Demand, sometimes we have to wait awhile but it works the other direction also that we get some things earlier here. We are living / viewing in pretty wonderful times when I think back in time to only 1-3 channels and local content .....

I know when I tell my kids that about how television was when I was a child, they can't comprehend. Children's TV only on a Saturday for two hours!!! And growing up in Germany, FAR too much football, every day at 6 pm! No You tube, no social media, a different planet compared with what is on offer now. For most parts, that is a really good thing.

The Swedish actor Adam Pålsson has been confirmed to be starring in a new Swedish crime series called The Conductor (Dirigenten).
The series will follow Swedish financier Tom Blixen (Pålsson), who is drawn into a brutal financial struggle in Moscow as capitalism takes hold after the fall of Communism. Tom believes he can handle the corruption that runs through the Russian businesses, but a venture throws him into conflict with the politicians, and Tom finds himself in danger.
The Conductor is adapted from the acclaimed Moscow Noir trilogy by Camilla Grebe and Paul Leander-Engström. Mikael Håfström (2003’s Evil) is directing.
Pålsson is perhaps best known for his leading role in season three of The Bridge, though earlier this year he had the main role in a biopic about Ted Gärdestad called Ted: Show Me Love, which is yet to be released abroad.
The Conductor will be released in Sweden in January 2019 on C More, and will later air on TV4. No international release date will be announced.

https://www.cinemascandinavia.com/the...

I AM CONFUSED AS I WATCHED THE FIRST TWO AND THOUGHT WE HAD SEEN THE THIRD AND WERE WAITING FOR NUMBER 4 AND THE FINAL FILM TO BE OUT OCTOBER 2018..... Sharing my list below.
Both films from Amazon Germany below:
Kvinden i buret was adapted into a Danish film by Zentropa in 2012, titled "Keeper of Lost Causes" in English. It was the top box office film in Denmark in 2013. A sequel, a film adaptation of Fasandræberne ("The Absent One" in English), was released in 2014. Both films star Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares. Both excellent!
A Conspiracy of Faith, 2015/6 film out. ....
Journal 64. Final film due October 2018......

Amazing news just coming in from Mattias Bergqvist at Expressen Sweden..
Netflix Nordic have announced a new series 'Young Wallander'.
In a press release, the 6 part series is described as "an exciting and new story that takes place in modern Sweden and follows Kurt Wallander on his first case. The story revolves around the experiences of Kurt as a person, professional and private, in his 20s as a newly graduated police officer.''
"Young Wallander" comes from Yellow Bird UK, a sister company of Yellow Bird Entertainment and filming will commence in 2019 with both Swedish and British actors in the production which will be recorded in English.
Berna Levin, Creative Director of Yellow Bird says:
"Henning Mankell's beloved detective Kurt Wallander has a special place in our hearts, with the series being the first one that Yellow Bird ever produced. So, it's with great joy and pride that we're going on this trip along with Netflix, the first production we make with Yellow Bird UK.
To meet Wallander during his young years and explore how that time and experience shaped him to the one we already know and love is an exciting opportunity. We are confident that he will impress new viewers and at the same time please the faithful fans.''

BBC Four is back with a new season of TRAPPED! Violence! A small community, again, twisted with prejudice, red neck attitudes and violence towards anything they mistrust or don’t understand..... DARK and broading season.... Even the nature! Sad previously it was quite violent and tense but moved along....... A very good reason to NOT visit Iceland ever!

Or is it simply that we now have so very many GREAT Series and Films out of Scandinavia, one gets quite picky???

Just now ·
Very exciting Dept Q news!
It has been announced that there will be a further 6 films in the series based on the books by Jussi Adler-Olsen with stars Ulrich Thomsen and Zaki Youssef cast in the lead roles of Carl Mørck and Assad. Martin Zandvliet will be conceptual director and Mikael Rieks will produce. The first of the new films will be 'the Marco Effect' with production beginning in Jan 2020 and release in October 2020.
''At Nordisk Film, we are proud that Jussi has shown us this confidence to bring his work to the screen and with a strong team consisting of lead author Anders August, co-author Thomas Porsager, director Martin Zandvliet and our two main actors, we can promise the audience a great and strong film experience'' said Mikael Rieks.
"Marco Effect" is my 5th story about Department Q and my attempt to show how corruption and greed hit the Western world, a story that is more relevant now than ever before. I am very pleased to see the story translated into movies and start my collaboration with Nordisk Film and the whole team with great openness and curiosity, says author Jussi Adler-Olsen, who will soon publish an 8th volume in the series on Dept Q when the novel " Offer 2117 ' is published on 14th June in Denmark.

Antti Tuomainen’s The Man Who Died to be adapted for television
by Paul Hirons
Looks like we'll be getting another quality Nordic crime drama coming soon to our television screens.

This time it's Antti Tuomainen's darkly comic and highly entertaining crime novel, The Man Who Died, that's getting the TV treatment.

Nordiskfond reports that the story, set in Finland, will be adapted for

A successful entrepreneur in the mushroom industry, Jaakko Kaunismaa is a man in his prime. At just 37 years of age, he is shocked when his doctor tells him that he's dying. What is more, the cause is discovered to be prolonged exposure to toxins; in other words, someone has slowly but surely been poisoning him. Determined to find out who wants him dead, Jaakko embarks on a suspenseful rollercoaster journey full of unusual characters, bizarre situations and unexpected twists.

It's all set to start filming in 2021 for Finnish streaming service, Elisa Viihde.

BBC acquires Danish crime series DNA
by Paul Hirons
The BBC has acquired DNA, a new Danish crime thriller created by the co-creator of The Killing, Torleif Hoppe and starring Charlotte Rampling.

Rolf Larsen, a respected detective on the Copenhagen police force, has his life brutally upended when his baby daughter goes missing. Five years after the tragedy a new lead emerges when a serious flaw is uncovered in the Danish police's DNA database. Realising that his daughter may still be alive, Rolf tries to find out what really happened to her by investigating a parallel case with ties to an international child-trafficking ring.

Rolf will get help from Claire, a seasoned French investigator who is working on a similar case.

The eight-part series also stars Zofia Wichlacz, Anders W. Berthelsen, Nicolas Bro (who we recognise from The Killing and The Bridge), and Olivia Joof.

There's no word on which channel it'll appear on, but our bet is BBC Four.
