Spacepig Pig | 1473 comments Time for Rob's next nom, Australian soft rock(?) band Midnight Oil.

Wiki says they have been going for about 40 odd years, and in that time have produced 11 albums (might be a few more Australia only ones, I gave up trying to work it out.

So, noms in by 10 pm Sunday night, youtube link etc etc.

Mega stonkin' heavy gig tomorrow night so I might not survive until Sunday, if not, see you in the next life

Soft Rock? We are talking about the same hard-rockin', politically aggressive, in-yer-face band from Sydney, right? To be fair, they do have a lot of melody. Tough choice, but I love this one from their last album proper in 2002:-

As Neil Young once said to a heckler, they're all the same song!

Tech XXIII | 6727 comments didnae say they sound the same, rob, they ARE the same! :) just with a bit of psuedo sincere posturing fae auld baldynarse! the effect, for me, is similar to jello biafra singing with the eagles - mis-matched! but hey ho! :)

theDuke | 5789 comments Well, I guess I gotta also 'gang up' on poor ol' Techy...as I enjoyed listening to Midnight Oil! And I didn't think the songs sounded samey same at all. Also, I was pleasantly surprised at discovering a couple of songs, that I had heard & liked, but never knew who they by; well, I do now, cheers Rob! :) Is there an album with both Beds Are Burning, Blue Sky Mine, Truganini & The Dead Heart on it at all? I like to get a copy, if there is.

Most of these songs were pretty good I thought, so would've given points to others if I 'ad 'em..

After Lez:

Beds Are Burning - 3
Truganini - 2
The Dead Heart - 1

As well as many of their albums, I have a best-of "20000 Watt RSL - The Midnight Oil Collection" that has all of those on (18 tracks). For a few more quid, I notice there's an "Essential Oils" CD that has 36 tracks.

Truganini is my favourite track but I thought I'd nominate the lesser-known Tone Poem - looks like I might be missing an easy win here!

Aw 'eck..I thought we only had the 3 votes, this week.

Right, I've re-done them; added a new 1 pointer - Golden Age, and increased the existing votes by additional point each, accordingly...hope that makes sense. So it now looks like this:

Spacepig Pig | 1473 comments There we go then!

I am not quite sure just how legal the Duke's little revision was there. One thing to amend your votes if no one else has posted yet, quite another if there have been further votes cast. I was kinda thinking about disqualifying the Duke's votes over this little infraction, then I thought, well who really cares anyway?

So on that note, our winner this week - Heken the Mekon (;-)) with Truganini . Second place with the only song of theirs that I had heard before, (and hopefully will never hear again) Brass Neck with Beds Are Burning. And grabbing the bronze, the Duke with Blue Sky Mine.

Seems to be a bit of a mixed reaction to this one, as for myself, let's just say, thanks, but no thanks, I like my rock with a bit of oomph to it.
