Please nominate a movie for our September Monthly Group Movie selection. We are not talking about new releases in the theaters, but movies that are readily available for streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. For our first month you may nominate any movie that falls into the action/adventure genre (we may begin themes for future months).

Here are the other considerations:

1. One nomination per group member.
2. Movie needs to be readily available for streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. (Please include location available in nomination post)
3. Movie should have some degree of action/adventure content.
4. Past group movies are not eligible to be nominated again. The past group discussions remain open for members to comment.
5. Mini-series may be included as long as they only consist of a few episodes (no full series)
6. Please feel free to include a blurb for the movie so others know a little about it. You may include links as well.

The poll will go up on August 23rd.

Lioness7 | 2 comments I hope this is where you nominate movies. I watch so many action/adventure it took me a while to find one that I have been wanting to watch but haven't yet. So I am going to list:

Kong: Skull Island

A team of scientists explore an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong, and must fight to escape a primal Eden. (Taken from: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3731562/...)

From what I could find by looking up the movie, it is on Amazon, Netflix, iTunes, Google Play, Youtube, and Vudu. I think it is also on Hulu, but couldn't get it to come up because I don't have a membership.

Yes this is where you nominate the movies. Could you please list where we can watch it though (Netflix, hulu, etc.) Thanks

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'll nominate "Grosse Pointe Blank" (1997), an oldie, but a goody. Should be available everywhere. Great actors & sound track.

Ellis Hastings (ellishastings) Buried

Ryan Reynolds plays a man who comes to after being kidnapped. To his dismay, he realizes he has been buried underground. With his cellphone's battery dwindling, and his oxygen stores steadily depleting, he must attempt to find rescue.

It's a gripping and impossible-to-predict tale. I was going to nominated Hereditary, The Babadook, or The Witch, but I feel that those are both very popular and were probably already seen by our members.

You all need to include where we can watch these movies with your nominations (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.)

From what I can tell, none of these movies can be found for free (even with memberships). None of them were available on Netflix. Most could be found on Vudu, Amazon, or Youtube for a price.

Since this is our first month, we will go with the poll as is. We would, however, like your opinions for future movie nominations.

Poll can be found here:
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...
Voting will close on August 30, 2018.

Is it ok to nominate a movie that costs $9.99 to rent, or would you rather stick to movies that can be found free on Netflix, etc. with a membership? Any other input you may have will be helpful. This is to be a fun experience for our members and we would like to be able to include as many as want to participate.

How do you all think this should continue for future months?

Lioness7 | 2 comments I love the idea of a group movie. Action/adventure movies have to be my favorite genre other than horror. The bad thing is that I personally can't get any streaming videos. If the movie isn't something I own or on TV, my internet service doesn't work enough to watch online. We also don't have any video stores or Redbox kiosks near anymore.

I can say that I don't mind renting a movie on Directv, but won't spend $9.99 to do so. The only thing that I can do if I have notice is try purchasing a DVD locally or online. I would be willing to do that.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) "Grosse Pointe Blank" is available from iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, YouTube, Fandango, VUDU, & more usually for $2.99. I didn't think to check & should have.

Like Lioness, I can't stream movies at home. Our Internet connection is long range wireless that's supposed to be 512kb - maybe on a good day.

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 180 comments I like the idea of movies especially after you read the book.
I’ll see what I can find and post an idea, and when map of bones does take the next step from “in development”, we can plan on hitting the movies in “reel” time.

message 12: by M.E. (new)

M.E. | 23 comments I cancelled Netflix streaming years ago because they never really had much on worth watching so availability on Netflix isn’t relevant to me. I probably wouldn’t rent something for ten bucks, but if I can’t rent for less than that, may be willing to buy it if I’m confident I’ll like the movie.

I agree with Kenneth on watching the movies after reading the book. We should try doing some combinations - group read the book, then group watch the movie. That sounds fun.
